    Best regards
Your StingRay would appear to be a Translucent Gold with piezo, maple neck, matching headstock and a white pearl pickguard. Completed on 3/18/05 and shipped to the Bass Place in Tempe, AZ.

    Gotta run,

I just received an early SR5 lined/fretless, serial number on bridge 56198

Looks to be stripped of the finish, and looks to be poplar?

Can you tell me what color it was? Thanks!

I'm at the point to buy in second hand a StingRay 5, but I didn't see and play her anymore... but I have few on pictures.
She is natural with white pickguard (the painting on the body has been taken away and the wood is protected by a wax), mapple fingerboard, a single pickup with a 3 band equalizer.
    Her SN is 51098.
Do you think her value is changed by the painting taken away? There is a kind of strange color between the head and the first fret. Do you have an idea? Could it be a varnish issue? Is it a know issue? Is it important for her sound, play, neck, value,...?

Could you give me more information about her such as build date, wood, neck, pickup...?

Do you know if this SR has been built for exportation (which country) or for the States? An idea of the first owner?

    Thanks.

    Renaud.
Renaud, according to our records, the StingRay 5 was built on 2/16/90 and was originally a Sunburst (Honeyburst) finish. It does look as if someone has refinished it in some sort of blond/natural finish. How it affects the value is an open question ... generally, I have found that these kinds of things lower the value. In the end though, like everything in a free society, value is what is decided on the open market.

It was originally shipped to France through our distributor there. As far as the 1st fret, it look just worn down to me, but I can't be sure.

Ric-Ray, this is an interesting one! Our records only tell us this is a Sterling "Special", has a maple neck, and that it was built on 12/18/96. Oh, it was shipped to a dealer in New Mexico that has long been out of business.

    Hope that helps anyhow ...

well .. it was Trans Teal, which would make the body ash. It was completed on 5/04/95 and originally sent to Strait Music in Austin, TX.

    Cheers,

It would probably be in regards to the finish or other aesthetic features of the bass. What color is it, anyway?

Cool! I remember us doing some of those .... it was sort of a contrast to the Silhouette Special that came out the year before, same S-Spec finish, called Pearl Purple, and a white pearloid pickguard as we only offered on the S-Specials back then, other than this of course.

Another interesting note: of the 70 or so of these built, all in 1996, only 8 stayed in the U.S. - the rest were shipped to our distributor in Germany.
