Hi Dan,

F11218 arrived yesterday. I would like to confirm 09/04/09 as the build date and 162-D2-76-01 as the build code. Those are the numbers on the box, but I thought 71 was the code for MHS.

Bryan, sorry, man! The build codes are different for Bongos due the entire neck being painted. And yes, everything you listed is exactly what it should be. Congratulations on your new Dargie Bongo 5!

The "B" serials apply to both Pre-EB and Ernie Ball Sting Rays but no official records exist. Can you describe your Bass...

colour...trans gold
fretboard wood...rosewood
3 or 4 bolt neck...4
top load bridge or strings through the body?...top load bridge
Is the string retainer on the D&G strings (Pre-EB) or A&D strings (EB)...A&D
The Pre-EB also has three position markers past the 12th fret while the EB has four....mine has 4

From info I have found, I'm guessing it was built around 1985....I was interested to find out where it was purchased (ie, in Australia or not)...hoping you might have that info....cheers

It's an Ernie Ball 'Ray and appears to made in either 1985 or 86. You might be lucky and find a date written (with a black marker) on the back of the control plate. Neck and body dates can be found as described above. I can't tell you where it was sent to or purchased.

I've never heard of Trans Gold back then. Is it perhaps Natural which has yellowed over the years?

Mike, welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on your new StingRay 5. It is a Vintage Sunburst finish with a maple neck and was built on Aug/05/2003 before being shipped over to the U.K.
