57FJ, your Blue Pearl Sterling with a rosewood fretboard was completed on 8/05/05.
The serial numbers on all of the SUB instruments are supposed to be on the back of the headstock. The serial numbers were affixed with a label. If it is not there, the only way to date it would be to remove the neck, and there should be a work order number there that we usually are able to trace. I would not recommend removing the neck unless you are a trained professional or are very comfortable reassembling guitars. Otherwise, you can be content to know that your bass was built between 2003 and 2006.

Mucho thanks!

Bob, the Lava Pearl finish was offered from the beginning of 2003 (it was an original Bongo color) until the summer of last year. It was pretty popular in the beginning but had outlived its life by the time we dropped it last year. Almost all of the 600 + StingRay 5's H's in that finish were built before 2006.
Do you want to know when yours was built? I can let you know if you provide the serial number.

Owow, stop searching, I googled the serial number and came back with a link to the EB forum. Exactly what I wanted!
So, 5'er, black sparkle, original white pickguard, but now with a(n) (ugly) mirror PG. Does anyone know how many there were made in black sparkle?
Here's the auction on ebay. You're too late, it's already mine!

Hello,
I recently had the amazing fortune to purchase (second hand and for a ridiculously low price) a gorgeous Music Man Bongo 4HH fretless bass. Being of rather modest income, this is a dream come true for me. The bongo is, as all here have testified, a marvellous instrument and an absolute joy to play.
The gentleman I purchased the bass from indicated that he had special ordered the bongo and described it as having a rosewood fretboard, which struck me as odd because I though pao ferro was used for fretless bongos.
The serial number is F14166. Could you confirm the date of manufacture and what wood was used for the fretboard?
Thanks kindly.
jack
Jack, Yes the Bongos are awesome, aren't they? Yes, you are correct, all fretless basses (except for new Stealth models) use pau ferro for the fretboard. A lot of people get that confused. Your Bongo bass was completed on 2/16/06 and was shipped to Mother's Music in Edmonton .
