Don't know about "more tension", but a reverse head means the peg for low string is so far from the nut that the main winding will not be wrapping onto the peg. If the the main winding of a high string gets onto its peg it's no big deal cuz it's such a light string.Originally Posted by 0557
Not to be a stick in the mud, or anything, but if you had a low B string "tuned @ 440," it'd snap long before you got there since you'd be tuning it to the same note as the 24th fret on the A string of a guitar. 440hz=AOriginally Posted by higher1

You didn't say tune to A=440. You just said tune it to 440. I'm sure it was funnier in my head, but still....

I can take a good joke bro. Rib away, but expect it back 10 fold
... we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread ...
I had a stingray 5 and I decided to go to a Sterling for the smaller neck, but I did the same thing I love the B-string and I wasn't using the G so I restrung it with a 125-65 and it works amazing sounds full, tight, and easier to play. I love it go for it man.
I didn't have to do anything to the nut, I had to tweak the truss rod a bit and raise the action but nothing serious.

I went through this a couple of years ago & settled on just using a pitch shifter only because I only needed that config to play a few songs properly.....otherwise I'm not a five string kinda guy.

actually, thats not a bad idea to use a lower 5-string gauge. saves from doin any nut filingOriginally Posted by chazmusicman
so since we have less tension with the low B, you loosened the truss rod a tad?
Thomastik Infeld Powerbass strings have a .119 low B string. If I have to use rounds, those are the ones that I use. Great strings.Originally Posted by pattiejay
There may not be a need to adjust the truss rod much. But, if you do find the notes choking a little bit below the 7th fret, or so, give the truss rod 1/8th of a turn, and you'll probably be fine.
Have fun!

i tried this with one of my cheapest non-mm basses with success. i'm actually going to string the stingray this way pretty soon when i sell my 5'er, but i refuse to do any cutting on the nut or bridge. think 120 hi beams will fit fine?
