Best bet is to post here and elsewhere for a trade or to buy. EBMM doesn't sell pickups/preamps/necks separately.

would they take an old neck as a "trade in/proof of SR5 ownership" by chance?

Nope. They only ever replace with an identical neck, and you have to return the original.

And this is a good idea in my opinion, just how many "FrankenRay's" have you ever seen?

I concur, I don't want to change the integrity of the instrument or pimp my neck off to someone who will put it on some non EB bass...

I just want a rosewood neck. Ok, so it's just down to trades... shame EB can't be more flexible for an honest SR5 owner...

Offer it for trade. Worked for me.

With all due respect, EB is flexible about much more than most dealers. Imagine if everyone, like you and MYSELF who wanted different fingerboard were able to exchange necks. What a nutroll that would be.

Just tihnk about what they would do with all the used necks? Whenever people felt like a new neck they would just send it back..

    That'd be ..bad.

I don't understand your reasoning? Are you saying they won't sell you a neck because they think you're dishonest? They're a small company putting out a high quality product, sure F*nder would do it but at a ridiculous expense. If EB started doing that people would then be complaining about the high cost of a replacement neck. Not to mention all the other problems related to this. I think you'll find EB is more flexible than you think, the boss drops in just about everyday to talk to us and answer our questions, he'll probably even respond to yours.

I get what you guys are saying its all cooll.. what I mean by "honest" is I really dig their product and would not want to see my maple neck end up on a music-stein bass.. I am totally for keeping musicman's rep as high as possible.. what I'm getting at is I feel I made a mistake buying a maple board and I would be happy to send my neck in to EB to keep it from going on some dodgy SR5 copy (and as proof of my SR5 ownership) and purchasing a new rosewood board from them..

that way I'd be happy, my MM SR5 would still be %100 an original MM SR5 and EB would not have a loose SR5 maple neck out there on the second hand market for someone to attach to some non MM bass...

I can't see a downside apart from my loss of not being able to sell the maple neck which I am totally cool with as it was my mistake in the first place... not to mention I'm just as agains music-stein basses as everyone here...

    peace...

I don't think you'd have a hard time selling the neck or a trade even. I've seen it done here. Maybe somebody here will go for a trade?

Why not try an outright trade (whole bass as opposed to just the neck)? You'd probably have a bit more luck that way.

    Maple as mistake?

I have an SR5 that was originally maple and, through a series of accidents and happenstance and coincidence and kismet, is now a rosewood board.

I don't really notice much difference.

    What don't you like?

Since the average person really can't hear a difference between rosewood and maple boards, particularly in a band situation, it comes down to looks. I've got both, and I'll be damned if I know which one I like better. The only downside I can see to maple, is that its dirt is more apparent than dirt on a rosewood board. Of course, I have heard that some people actually clean their necks, but that remains unconfirmed. Remo, I'd either sell the bass on eBay and get what you really want, or try to make a trade. Damn, now you're making me think about trading you my rosewood SR5 neck for your maple. Damn.
