Hip Shot - BT1

With over twenty years playing bass and mostly five string I am getting on of these to install on my new Ray(sr4) that I just purchased. I believe I got the right one (BT1) for my bass, my question is...how difficult is it to install and set up one of these?

I believe this will make my venture back into playing 4-string basses a bit easier, any help would be appreciated.

The hipshot should come with instructions, which are fairly straight forward and easy to follow. I installed a hipshot on a fender jazz I once owned (MIJ '75 reissue) and it was simple - unscrew and unbolt the tuner, install the hipshot the same way (it comes with screws), then tune the note you want to de-tune to. For example, if you want a low "D" you'll fine tune the detune screw until you get to the "D" (use a tuner btw).

The one and only issue I found with the hipshot is that once I flipped back to my "E", it would be a tad sharp, so I developed a habit of pulling the E string to stretch it back to intonation. I find 5 strings much easier than using a hipshot.

I read the info on-line and it does seem pretty easy, it even tells you how to get rid of the problem that you had. But like anything I am looking for real world experiance with these things to see what really has to be done to get them to work right. I don't have much hair left on my head as it is so I want this to go as painless as possible!!

Some day I will have an Eden rig again!! hopefully soon.

I have hipshots on all of my 4s... very simple to install (last one took me less than 10 min). Takes a bit longer to get the tuning set up properly but once it is there I have had no trouble going flat or sharp. Happy installing!

Biggest thing to remember is to stretch you E string a bit when you first install it... flip the lever a few times, retune the E.Flip the lever a few more times tune the D with the fine tuning screw... and repeat until they are both in line (trust me it sounds worse than it is and I also can't afford to lose anymore hair)

I'll also back up the fact that a Hipshot is easy to install and use. I have no hair loss concerns myself, since I follow Tony Levin's example in the arena of men's hairstyles

I have a Hamer jazz copy I'd like to use a drop on. I'm pretty sure the tuners are schaller closed back (chrome/small). Let me know if I can get it through you.

A BT-2 will only fit the large open style Schaller.....I know this style comes on a Fender '75 RI & the Geddy Lee jazz.
Also.....+1...they are easy to install as long as they are a direct fit.
BT-1 + EBMM=piece of cake

I've got Hipshots on both my Bongos, with the 5 string being tuned to EADGC it means I get extra high and low notes over a std. 4 string.
