    Look what followed me home!

I sold my fretless Bongo last week, figuring I'd replace it with some passive bass to give me a little bit of variety in my collection. That all changed when I called up a local shop where I used to teach and asked if they had anything interesting. My buddy there said "I was actually going to call you, we just got in an old Stingray and I figured you might want to see it". To make a long story short, I got there and they had a beautiful 1994 (body date is Dec 93, neck date is April 94 frrom what they told me, 401XXX serial #) black/maple Stingray. The bass was in great shape and played/sounded fantastic. When the owner quoted me the "just for you" price I just about fell over. Suffice to say I got a killer deal on a killer bass.

It's got some nice flame on the neck and the mutes look like they've never been used (and they'll probably stay that way). All in all, it's almost my perfect stingray (not to say I won't buy that trans orange, 2 band 'Ray one day). Very different from my Bongo and SR5, even though you can tell they're still from the same family. No redheaded step child here!

Very cool Tom, but sort of scary that they described a 94 as old!

My buddy is 18, so he was only two years old when this bass was made. A lot of things are old to him that aren't to everybody else. He doesn't even remember New Kids on the Blockl!

That's beautiful! Tom, that's 2 basses you've had that have been my favorite color combos (black/black/maple, honeyburst/white/maple). Congrats on a great find!

Unless he's really 14, you're buddy should have been 6 when this was made. But, considering he doesn't remember the Berlin Wall coming down, he is still a pup.

Nice bass. You gotta love the simple beauty of black, black, maple. Good score!
