I think about him most when I'm riding my motorcycle; he rode for the California Highway Patrol and the Palm Springs Police. He even passed up promotions to stay on the bike and on the street.

He was truly a people person!
That's pretty cool that your dad was a cop too.

My dad was Chief of Police here in town when I was in high school. Soemtimes it was a hinderance, sometimes a blessing for me. I did skate on a few tickets that I would have gotten if I wasn't his son. He was on the force from '55, just before I was born until '85 when he passed away. Stress does terrible things to your circulatory system.
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

    Would of been proud

Hy dad was a professional woodwind player (most notably the flute). He died before my musical bass player career took off. I wish he could he see me now; he would be proud of his "low notes" son. Miss ya dad, thanks for giving me the "music."

My dad was a tenor vocalist and took vocal lessons his entire adult life to the day he died. He would have loved me playing guitar, singing, playing gigs and making a few independent CD releases.

I will see him again when I leave this life behind.

Thanks for the compliments, Larry and Lisa!

Seems a good many of us here were (or are) fortunate enough to enjoy some quality time with our dads (and moms). A lot of people out there don't get that opportunity.

He was quite a character sometimes. Just wanted to share. It always makes me smile when I remember it.
My Dad told it exactly the same way. He's gone 12 years - man what a drummer he was!
Incredible snare drum technique - all self taught!!
He came to see me play once . He said "Loved the drummer, really made the cymbals sing - you played great but were TOO DAMN LOUD!!!

the bird is on the wing
    but that's absurd
I always thought the wing was on the bird

my dad passed away last week, he loved to play his fathers guitar and im learning now that hes gone.. im only 18 yrs old n i was google'n for some music to remember him by when i came across this thread and i decided to register.. i just wanted to say i love my father very much and i regret everytime i wasnt the best son i could've been and everything i never told him or shared with him. he was a proud guy so he never really showed much emotion but i knew he loved me and my sister. i know very few of u care about this but i just felt like saying something about him to anyone because he was a great man and although none of u knew him or know me, the feeling that i've tried to express how much he meant to me to others makes today just slightly more bearable..

Robster it is tough losing dad. Welcome to the forum. Mobay (Larry) and others have paid great tribute to their dads that have passed.

I still have trouble believing my dad is gone and it has been 6 years.

Hang in there he taught ya and you will be okay.

This has been a great thread to read on a thursday morning. I lost my mum to breast cancer two years ago, and although I think about her everyday it is good and right to celebrate the parents with threads like this.
As I am about to become a parent in September I kinda wish she was here to see that. She would have made the perfect doting grandmother - although would have hated being called granny.
My dad is very much still with me and totally supportive of his two bass playing sons, despite not having a musical bone in his body bless him...

Hey, Robster - I'm so sorry. I lost my dad suddenly when I was 27 and it was so hard. I can't imagine how tough it must be for you at 18. Talking about him is definitely a good thing! If it weren't for mt dad having a guitar around the house (he never did really learn how to play, but he enjoyed all types of music), I never would have gotten started. Hang in there.

My dad was not much of a poet, but he was a hell of an engineer! We lost him a few years ago...I still miss him dearly.

    Thanks for sharing, Larry!

Hey Robster. I hope that you will always remember your dad for everything he was. It's tough to lose them and especially just as you are getting ready to start a life of your own. I hope that in some small way my post brought a smile to your face and caused you to have some fond memories about your dad. I'm sure he would have told you to keep your chin up.

About a year and a half ago after my mother passed away, my fathers 75th birthday was like 2 months later and he was really grieving.

I woke up that morning w/o a present for him. Picked up the guitar and wrote him a song. Called it MILESTONE (75 and first b-day w/o mom).

He cried when I played it for him.

...coulda been the playing I guess.

at least he didn't walk out.
