    Let the fun begin...

Got into a new band last week, thought I had 3 week until the first show (and to learn 40+ songs in various, non album keys AND more importantly to get a few practices in). Got the word Monday night that I got bumped upto playing tomorrow night (Saturday). So I have been doing the obvious practicing (w/o the band) and get to go in cold (not the first time I've done this but it does wonders for the blood pressure). The fun part about this is that I get to fully unleash the GK stack!!!!!!!!!!! Let the good times roll (and I'll try and get some gig snaps too)!!!

    Well, it came and went.

The good: the show went awsome. Never played without a setlist before (thus the 57 tunes) and we let the crowd's emotion dictate what we played next. Didn't boff any of the songs terribly (some did start running together in my head - but by that time everyone was too drunk to care).

The bad (and it IS bad): My GK2001RB blewup during the 1st set. Sounded awsome, then the burning smell, then nothing but distortion. Thankfully I had my BOD with me so a couple wire switches and leveling and I was set to go through the PA (very disturbing playing without feeling air moving behind me). So tomorrow I get to call GK and GC and see what my options are. But it sounded soooooooooo nice for a set (the BOD sounded pretty good too - must be the Bongos )

    Phew thank goodness for that.
As an aside, a bass player I played with 25 years ago always put a thick wedge of foam rubber under his Orange amp. We used to rib him over it - he still has it and it still sounds wonderfull.

That sucks.I played a 2001RB for 3 years as my main amp with no problems.I think it was just a random thing and the next one should be fine.

Ritch. I too played GK for many moons. I didnt have any problems, so I hate to hear that youve had an issue with your 2001. By now you know too, that Dan and Gene will take care of you and this issue.

Glad to hear you made it through your gig. It sucks to hear about your head though. Im glad to hear im not the only one having to learn a bunch of songs for a cover band right now. The head thing reminds of a time when I played a show a couple of years back and I had a Trace Elliot head that I was dearly in love with. It made it through the show but was crushed and I mean CRUSHED while packing up. Ive never found anything with that kind of sound since.

Well the fun keeps on rolling. After regrouping and playing around with the rig it turns out I didn't blow the head... I seems as though I toasted the cabs... both of them (rated at 600w ea) and toasted them good. GC and GK have both been awesome. Gene at GK talked me through some things (and was willing to expidite my repairs if GC didn't take care of matters), GC ordered my replacement cabs right away on just my word (they actually had a new head ordered too until we crossed that off the list). Frustrating but everything looks like it will work out.
