Portrait Of Tracy on my fretless Bongo

    Hi everybody.

After my first semester trying to teach some of my students this piece with satisfying results in most cases, they asked me to record a video for keep checking it out during the vacation time. I tried to do my best but of course the usual mistakes always appear. Anyway, I think this is a half-decent version and I wanted to share it with all of you. I played it on my fretless Bongo with flatwound strings. One thing I noticed after my first attempt at playing this piece seriously while seated is that it's much easier for me to play it while standing (specially the D# stretch). I have to work on that. Hope you enjoy it!

    Thumbs up

    Great playing, Alvaro!
And me not even close to nailing the eruption piece yet

One thing I noticed is you wearing long pants this time, which probably means you still havn't got a good tan going

One serious question: If you play better standing, why'd you want to sit?

Again, seriouly nice playing, and those stretches are insane on a fretless!
bovinehost: Yes, I do agree with that, but if there's nothing wrong then there's nothing wrong.
Beth: I would compare Bongo to Tommy Lee Jones. Bad a$$ and just hot in a weird way...
cheezewiz: They should take their lace thongs off and play bass.

Thank you for your comments, Magnus (and everyone ). Well, I played that seated just because I feel more comfortable that way for recording a video. I mean, the camera location, start/stop recording...

Anyway, I've always thought that you must be able to play any material either standing or sitting. That way you eliminate variables that can lead to mistakes. It's just that I've never played this piece in its entirety while seated before, just when showing some parts to my students. Again, it's very important for me to work and solve that problem.
