OT: Fair price for an used rig?

Hi everybody (this is a copy of a message sent to Jack before posting it here):


First of all, my apologies if it's improper to make this question, but I can't think of anybody else who can help me. I posted it at TalkBass and it was considered as a trade attempt.

A friend is interested on my old rig. I've been thinking of selling it, but frankly I don't know how much to ask for that. That's all I'd like to know. Of course I know that the market may be different where I live, but I just want a reference point. The rig is comprised of:

- a Crate BXH-220 head with a wood roadcase.
- an old (1987) Peavey 2x15 bass cabinet with Black Widow speakers (4 Ohm. total impedance) plus bag.
- a Crate 1x15 bass cabinet, 200W max. load, 8 Ohms. No bag.

The items are in good condition. Again, please excuse me if I shouldn't ask this. It's not a trade attempt. Just looking for some enlightening.

I'd say probably between $300 and $350 for the whole rig. If he's a good friend i'd give it to him alot cheaper

Alvaro is in Colombia, and gear prices are MUCH higher in all of South America.

I have no idea what these would sell for in the USA, but the prices are definitely going to be higher in latin america.

I once asked a friend of mine, a studio owner in Lima, where he went to buy new keyboard gear and so on.

Deadpan, he said, "Miami."

He meant it, too.
