Remind me not to play the "house rig"

Ugh. So there we are, swooping in to the rescue when another band canceled for a local church's 4th of july (open to the public) thing. They say don't bother bringing your rig, you can play the church's rig. It was a carvin red eye combo, the one with like two 10s and a 15. Well, after the second song, the thing quit. No lights coming on or anything. I couldn't figure out how to pop the fuse out, so no clue if that was it or not. The thing was so hot I couldn't touch it though, yipe! I wasn't "loud." Actually, before it died, the singer asked me to turn up (which I didn't).

Moral of the story: My bongo still rocks

Yeah, I burned up one of those Redline heads with Stingray a while back........good thing it belonged to a good friend of mine. Someone else might not have been as understanding as he was. It was at a church also......

Well, He figured enoughs enough. The Bongo was unequally yoked with the carvin.

I think the carvin was begging to be put to rest

I just plugged direct into some unknown brand direct box and away we went. No clue what it sounded like, I couldn't hear myself. Doh!

Bad thing was I had both my amps and speaker cabinet in the car. I coulda been like "Ok, you 400 people wait a few minutes while I run to my car in the parking lot over there."

i've never used a bass with active electronics... is it an implied joke that the bongo fried the amp or is this possible?

Too much gain will fry the speakers, not the amp. It's possible to do so with any bass (active or passive), with a whack gain signal structure from the bass to the cabinet. If you drive the amp into constant clipping your speaker voice coils will not last very long.

Doh, change that. According to the church, it was more like 3000 people. Yipe. I couldn't tell with all the stage lights lol.

Nope, not implying that the Bongo was the cause. As far as I could tell, the amp wasn't clipping. However, after it quit you could fry and egg on the thing. It burned me when I was checking out the fuse. I couldn't get the fuse cover off, so don't know if that was the problem or not. I dunno, maybe the fan wasn't working. The power wouldn't come on at all heheh. No lights, no nothing.
