    I Met Pino!!!!!!!!!!

God, what can i say?? a top guy, was more interested in me and my playing rather than blowing his own trumpet (bass?!) even had a geeky conversation about gear with him...you guys will cry when you hear why he isnt playing the Bongo anymore , it's almost blasphemy *sobs*...anyways..enough bragging. Just nice to know there are some genuine top guys in the music industry

Bass players are generally nice guys Ive found.

So go on then, pray tell, why isnt he playing a Bongo anymore? Very interested in why he prefers that Precision over an MM.

He was saying that the tone controls are a bit too sensitive for him, he can get one extreme to the other with the slightest tweak, which some people love but he prefers a more solid foundation to work from. And at Hyde Park yesterday with the Who he was using a black with white pg jazzmaster(??) bass....looked like a jazz but with jaguar guitar styley switches on the top of the PG...

Regarding the precision, it looks stunning, got a photo on my phone of it close up, believe it has been used to be F*nders Pino Signature model.

And has anyone realised how taaaaall he is?! Im 6'1 and felt noticabley short..

    Thanks for sharing that.

I'm one of those who loves the sensitivity of the preamp on the Bongo.

A Jazzmaster doesnt float my boat I'm afraid. I've only heard him use the Precision on the John Mayer Trio live cd and I really didnt like what was I hearing, it really got lost in the mix.

I'd better not stand next to either of you. I'm 5'10" !

That was probably the new Jaguar bass he was playing. I tried one out at GC and wasn't too impressed . Then I played a 30th Ray- Best sounding/looking bass i've ever played.....Now to convince my wife how much I need one

Well, what's he going to say?

Still, a real cool bass player.
bovinehost: Yes, I do agree with that, but if there's nothing wrong then there's nothing wrong.
Beth: I would compare Bongo to Tommy Lee Jones. Bad a$$ and just hot in a weird way...
cheezewiz: They should take their lace thongs off and play bass.

That's really cool man! Pino is one of my favorites and It would awesome if he played his bongo out but he's still a great bassist. I don't know if he has an HH Bongo4 but perhaps a single H would be more up his alley. I've heard that's it's more "point and shoot". Hell, make it passive while we're at it.

Pino is an all-time fav. of mine as well. As for his switch to Fender, oh well, people's got free will to which taste is not always linked
