If someone asked you for a recommendation, what would you tell them?
I used to think HH but my blue Bongo 5 HS has been getting an awful lot of action these last few months. I don't have a good answer anymore.
You guys, have at it.

One of each. duh.
Honestly though, I would say HSp because its the only one that I don't have a lot of experience with.

I find that the HH configuration, while not as mean as the HS, seems to be able to squeeze into more musical settings with ease. Having said that, my HS Stealth Bongo is a blues beast. It's perfect for filling in the spaces with that single-coil tone in a guitar/bass/drums trio.

has anyone had a bit of experience with both? i'm assuming that an HH or HS sounds the same as its piezo equipped equivalent with the piezo rolled off to zero... minus the very tweakeriffic differences in string saddle construction.
i haven't had much experience with humbuckers, being a fender jazz guy. what does a neck H offer versus a neck S?
Nope.Originally Posted by Figjam

Franken-Bongo 5 HHp (The Billy Bass), unlined fretless, daphne blue, mint pickguard, EB Cobalts.
Dargie Delight Bongo 5 SHp, fretted, Dargie, b/w/b pickgaurd, Dargie. Ernie Ball straplocks. EB Cobalts.
Franken-Bongo 5 SHp (Moby, the White Whale), fretted, white, cigar leaf sating finish, tort pickguard. Purple silk Flats.
Just to add a little more - these were my first impressions of the Bongo HS
"the HC configeration is like Hannibal Lecter, clean, smooth and like a very sharp knife.
I set everything flat and the pick up selector set to the hummer. nice tone.
Rolled the selector nearer the middle indent and boosted the mids a touch and bingo Bongo lethal.
It cut through the mix like paper with a tight clear bark of a tone - funnily enough just what I had in my head."![]()

Heh--I've been thinking about doing it since 2004. It was fun to do (and I got the dates off of my Bongos in the process). I still need to set them up when I get home today. I'll try and get some sound clips before I swap them back.Originally Posted by MingusBASS
One of my favorite tones in the world is Bongo SC neck pickup soloed set about 60/40 with the piezo. It sounds wonderful with fretless. I wanted to see how it sounds with the fretted.
