    Two Ticks and Repairadise

So the old sparkle Sterling re-hab job was doing pretty well except for soldering up a new output jack. Today, with an hour to kill and feeling (wrongly) that my soldering skills were up to spec, I started in on the job.

Hey. The old jack and the new jack don't look the same. Hmmm. Well, this is a 2002 bass, maybe they changed jacks.

Wait, what the....why are the two red wires TAPED AND SOLDERED TOGETHER?

Okay, let's call Jon. He telephonically diagnoses the main questions.

    1. The output jack has been replaced with a non-MM jack.
    2. Whoever did it was smoking crack.

Thank God for Jon! Well, and phones, too.

So he walked me through what goes where and then set me loose to go insane on my own. Two hours later, I do believe it is done.

(You really need six hands to solder properly.)

I think I can finally take this little abused beauty out in public now.

    Thanks, Jon!

    Jack

    G*$*$it, f*#$I(ng solderin iron!

Spoke too soon. I still have to jiggle the plug to get it to work properly.

I'm taking it to someone who can solder, dammit!

Azzy, right now, it would take about four dollars but then I'm also determined to get this thing working RIGHT.

    Grrrrrr!

It's late and I can think of no adequate response except to throw my toys out the pram and have a paddy. So I shall!

I'm not one to laugh at other's misfortune. But if it's minor like this I sometimes laugh.

Stick to Bongos, they solder better. Your owning of that Sterling is only a state of flux anyway, send it to Azzy, £5 quid is $9.00 after all...

    Hey Jack, call Tim Dawson.

I'm sure he'll get it handled for you.
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

Thanks for the pointer, Larry, but he will have to wait a week - I am out of town on vacation at the moment.

I'll give you $10 as is Jack. Your soldering must be worse than my Spanish. I should have had you bring it down to NAMM with you.
