I use Fender 9050's on my P-Basses, Rotosound flats on my fretless Jazz Bass and Chromes on my Hamer 2-TEK CruiseBass and my active SUB 5. The fretless will get Chromes the next time I change strings. I like low action and high tension.

Mark I have heard that EB flats are comparable to chromes. Have you ever tried that to know one way or another if that would be correct?

My flats experience thus far is TI and Fender 9050.

I like what I like, and also will say string tension has not be a factor at all with me with any string. I set my bass up according to the strings I put on it.

I have been playing a bass with fairly heavy flats for the last month. I pulled out a Jazz bass last night and put an old set of TIs on it, but took them off after about two minutes, because they felt like overcooked noodles. I could get used to them I'm sure, but then I wouldn't be able to play the heavier flats that I like. btw, EB flats are very good strings, and I'm suprised they don't get more attention on this forum. Jack you need to put a set on one of your basses and gush over them a bit, then 3/4 of the people on this forum would actually give them a try

Are the EB flats nickel or steel?

It is my understanding that EB flats are tin plated steel.

I haven't tried Chromes so I won't be able to compare either.

My bad I am kind of one way on my strings.

Thanks, I have never noticed tension problems with TI strings. To me more tension on a string such as the 9050 Fender strings just amounts to thump and thud.

I like the mids that the Ti flats offer. I am going to try EB flats and see if I may become surprised. If so I haven't a problem saying tom is going to play EB flats.

    update... (the bump)

well, i got the brite flats on the SUB, and i love them! they've just a bit higher tension than i am used to with rounds, and very smooth & punchy. i realize they're not "true flats" by the purists' definition, but they definitely will work for my needs, and they mellow out the brightness of the bass considerably.

That reads like a bit of a dig You did ask for opinions about GHS bright flats... I'm glad you like the strings. Most anything sounds good on an EB bass!

EB flats are not an "all thud" flatwound. They have a much fuller sound (more highs and lows) than TIs, actually.

haha... no dig intended at all, just sharing my thoughts in case anyone cared. i hate that you had a bad experience with them before, and i appreciated your input. i'm glad i didn't have the same experience, but it was good to have the heads-up. thanks again for the banter.
