    rays brillant sound

hi everybody. i have several questions to ask.
    i bought a 2003 lava pearl ray.
i am runnig it trought a GK 400 rbiii and a 4x10 he ampeg cabinet.
sometimes it feels, especially at higher level to be so brilliant. it is jut because of the GK head or the cabinet or it is just the ray? i am planning to get at least a new head, any advice?

by the other hand, it is truth to rays¨use to have some sort of frett buzzing, or that is some sort of urban leyend. mine has a little buzz, its that normal?. thanks

Funny, I have almost the exact same rig, except my lava pearl Ray is a fiver and my Ampeg is a 4x8. Small world eh?

Have you tried eq-ing it out, or maybe different strings? The ray is definitely a bright bass. A real big difference from my J bass. But that's why I love it so.

I don't have much if any buzz, but my action is a little too high right now, I need a good set up. Maybe that's all you need.

More experienced persons that I will now chime in...

I suggest you set everything flat to start with and adjust from there. The MusicMan bass is one of the easiest to setup in the world, buzzing can quickly be fixed.

thanks. maybe the GK head is overloaded, because at lower sounds great maybe the 700 RB shuld work? because i got to say, i really like the sound (when is low). at this moment i am using labella supersteps stainless. any advice on strings?
the ones coming with the ray felt "floppy" so i traded for labella but they will eat my fretts? thanks

by the other hand i tried a all-tube fender. sound? INCREDIBLE i couldnt believe that sound, sounded beatiful, soooooooo could it be rays are more designed to be played whit tubes or hybrid amps? because when i played my 94 peavey fury on it sounded like crap. no way to compare.
is there any one who nows how to set up the ray easely, because honestly i am afraid puttng one of my fingers on it. thans everybody

hello mate my 'ray was a little buzzy when i first got it so i raised the action a little which fixed the problem.
as for sound the onboard e.q. is buy far the best i've ever used & when combined with my G.K. rig sounds awesome.
B.T.W. it is really worth using G.K. cabs if you buy a 700RB or 1001RB as they let you use the bi-amp system to create some wonderful tones.

Search this forum and you will find. Rod Trussbroken wrote an excellent neck set up guide...

First thing to do if there is buzz is to locate it. If it's low frets you turn the trusswheel counter clockwise (more relief), if it's high fets you turn clockwise. (less relief, no surprise there)
If your saddles are high, chances are you don't have enough relief.

Beth: I would compare Bongo to Tommy Lee Jones. Bad a$$ and just hot in a weird way...
cheezewiz: They should take their lace thongs off and play bass.

If that cab has a horn or tweeter, disconnect it or turn it off.
