    Mellow SR5 HH

It always gets me when players saw that Stingrays are limited or unable to get mellow. Today, I and some colleagues at the university where I work, did a rendition of St. Louis Blues. I was so pleased at how deep and round my SR5 HH sounded. What was even neater, was that I did a blues guitar style solo that really cut through without even youching a knob or switch. I had all controls on full with the coil switch on position three (all coils activated.) SR5 HHs truly rock!

All controls on full. It puzzles me why people do this.

I was thinking the same thing.

I remember seeing hardcore acts when I was in my early teens and in retrospect, the bass tone for the stingrays they played was DEFINITELY from setting the controls on max. It sounds sort of cool by itself but mud in a band setting.

I almost always leave all the tone bands on full unless I want to get a more old school sound and I cut the treble. Most of my tone shaping comes from the coil swtich, the amp, and my hands. It works for me.

My controls barely leave the center indent!

With my new rig, the sterling sounds amazing with controls set on the center detent, with a tiny bass boost.

Center detent on my Sterling here too... But I have to admit that low and high band gets a small boost on occasion, whenever Bongo-envy creeps in.
