    Jamming in Dallas?

I think it was on the "Let's gloat.." thread that a list of songs people could play was muted. It seemed to fizzle out though. So, what's happening? Are we getting up and jamming or what?

Does anyone want to accompany me on "Play the funky music white boy'?

Also, without rehearsal, don't the songs all just sort of die out in an awkward manner, or are you guys real musicians, with musician ESP and know how to finish exactly?

You gotta have some direction. Around Texas, everyone knows a few SRV tunes (at least) and bassists should be able to fake their way through that sort of thing anyway.

My advice is - hook up with someone from the guitar side, figure out who's singing and knows the words and go nuts. Keep it simple, though. You do NOT want to try to fake your way through a King Crimson tune, even if you know it backwards. No one else will.

Pick some old rock and roll. Me, I always go for stuff like Elvis or some rockabilly or something. If it has more than three chords, toss it out. (Okay, maybe 5 chords.)

Don't bring it if you can't sing it - also good advice. Wanking gets boring after a bit!

    Hey Jack,

    Thanks for replying.

"Play That Funky Music White Boy" was a huge hit for Wild Cherry in the UK. Maybe it never made it Stateside, but it is a very simple funk tune. I'm a very basic bassist, I wouldn't impress anyone, I just keep time.

Perhaps I'll just sit your bash out, and enjoy the real musicians.

    See you next week.

Oh no. No you don't! If I play, you play! Listen, there is no more basic bassist than yours truly, I assure you, but I refuse to let the others drive me away, heh heh.

It's not about who's better. It's about enjoying each other, getting a chance to actually play, exploring the possibilities. So I say this to your thoughts on sitting out the jam: "Pshaw."

Go over to the guitar forum and see who wants to play! They're fabulous sluts over there, believe me.

And "Play That FunkY Music" was a huge hit here. Don't worry, we've all heard it and maybe even played it a time or two.

I love whoreing myself out for these things, but Wonderdog will pimp-slap me if I don't do a set with him again.

I'm sure someone could twist Tommy's arm and get him to play some songs

I've already talked this over with myself and we've been working on some fingerstyle stuff in alternate tunings that sounds pretty good.

Well, I put a post up on the guitar side, and I have got a guitarist to cover this tune. Just need a singer now.

I think DWF is down for singing Play that Funky Music..

    Other planned songs are:

Give me one reason - with Tiffles on bass/vocals, Tommy on guitar, Beth on vocals, John on drums (?) and anyone else who wants to jump in. Hey, I think we need another guitarist for that one. Anyone anyone?

and that's it. That's all I know. We gotta plan some stuff!

You guys plan way too much.

It's a JAM! You say to the drummer, "Shuffle." You say to everyone else, "Jump blues in E" because real blues are always in E.

Then you make some crap up about a woman done treat you bad, etc etc.

    Trust me, I'm from Mississippi.
