    Ray problem

The volume pot on my fretless is scratchy as hell.

Well, thankfully it doesnt make any noises, but it aint a smooth operator by a long shot, trust the only thing i didnt check to be at fault

Anything specific to use or just contact cleaner? (ive not opened the back to see if thats even possible)

Bit of a pain in an otherwise perfect expensive instrument.

Contacxt cleaner could clear it up, if not you will need to replace the pot - though I don't know how it is integrated with the preamp

Sometimes dirt, grit, dust...whatever get in there and causes that "scratchy" feel...contact cleaner should work. I periodically take off the knobs and clean them as I do gig and more frequently now...hope this helps.

Ill have a look and hope that works.

Its more of an annoyance than anything to be honest, it isnt like any scratchy pots ive had before which have made that scratchy noise when turning, the volume and everything amplified is as should, but the pot isnt right.

I dont have any contact cleaner right now either, it seems to have vanished, shall have to buy some more tomorrow.

If the contact cleaner doesn't work, simply immerse the bass in a cauldron of boiling water.

    Wait ... seriously?

I actually do boil my strings though ... just not while they're still on the bass!

Are you sure the knob isn't just down too low? If it's a 3 band you should center the pot at the detent before you remove the knob. When you reinstall it may work better.

Definitely try the contact cleaner first. When your looking at the pot, you can usually find a small hole that will work for an entry point. I always cover my bass up with a towel to avoid spraying the finish with cleaner. After spraying, turn the knob several times to spread it around.

If a couple of sprays don't help, you can buy replacement pots directly from EBMM customer service. If you can solder you can swap it yourself.
