Being reminded how much the 'Ray 5 kicks butt

Last night I was hanging out and jamming with a friend, and he happened to have dug up some old MP3's of a band we were in a few years back. The band stunk, but I couldn't believe how good my old Stingray 5 sounded! One of the MP3's was from a show where we had a power surge on stage and everything cut out but the drums and PA. Of course, everything but my amp came back on, so I spend the rest of the night just going direct. Didn't matter! Still sounded great.

I'm going to have to get in touch with another friend with whom I did some recording work on the 'Ray 5 and see if he has an MP3 from that.

When I have the scratch, I think I'll try to pick up another Stingray 5 (or maybe a Sterling, since I'm digging 4 bangers these days). The 2-band 'Ray will have to wait. At least I have my Bongo to keep me company!

I gotta tell you something... a two band Stingray with a ceramic pup is a very good sounding, best of both worlds instrument.
    IMO.

Actually, Scott, this was the Graphite Pearl I traded you for the 2-band 'Ray a few years back. Although if I remember correctly, it left your hands without leaving the box.

The black on black I got from you was a killer bass, as was the Buttercream Hum/Single I had to sell off last year. My next one will probably be a single H - I spent a few minutes the other day playing some SR5's at my local GC, and I prefer the coil switching options to multiple pickups.

The good news is that my wife agreed that a SR5 would be an excellent birthday present as long as I made some room for it. I guess it's time to dust off the eBay account and move some non-MM gear!

I usually go to an open mic blues jam every other Thursday. I have the only MM there. The other basses are the usual F#$%er P's and J's. There are some other basses there as well. My SR5 absolutley dominates. Fat phat fat. Deep punchy tone that's also articulate. Did I mention fat? All that plus the mighty Stingray growl.

Ah, SR5 love is so sweet.

I've spent the last two evenings with my DD SR5 HH and am I happy?

Why, yes, yes, I am, thanks for asking!

Ah, that one went to Todd Fortier for a 93 Honey Burst SR4. I have no idea how I remember that but I remember tracking the UPS truck down, sticking a new label on it and driving to the UPS hub in the same afternoon (while I was on duty protecting this nation from a lull in internet bass trading). Or something.

ya, I mentioned how much I liked the SR5 when I was reacquainted with one this past weekend and that it caused serious GAS for a 20th Anniversary SR5.
but I guess because I mentioned that the SR5 that I had played had an after-market Alnico pick-up in it that wasn't appreciated. I mean, who'd ever think of putting an Alnico p/up in a stock Sting Ray 5? Those dang 'Acme' modifications, such crap ideas.
