    Searching for a GK

I´m newbie on cab+head configuration, and after a extense searching, I decided to buy a 410 GK rig.
I´m confused because a lot of qualified bass players have the GK 800RB, but it only have 200W at 4 ohms of power. Others have different power ratings but not matching with the 400/800 power rating of the GK cabs. More confused with the biamplified system, I dont know what must I do.
I need to play among 2 guitars and a powerful drummer.
Any thougts about the Backline production?

The 800RG has 300 watts @ 4 ohms. From their site...

    Low-300W@4ohm, 200W@8ohm, 1kHz -- High-100W@8ohm, 1kHz

Bi-Amping means that you can split your highs and lows between 2 different enclosures, which allows you to tweak your sound more. Billy Sheehan does something very similar...he just uses 2 separate amps.

I have never really used a backline for an extensive period, but I was unimpressed with it for the time I did spend. I wasn't too much a fan of GK in general, but I have been thinking it's time to take em' for another go-round. I would like a new, light weight head...and they seem to have em'. But I'll be stacking them up against Markbass...so we'll see who wins.

Recommend you go with a 1001RBII and a Neo 2x12 or 2 2x12s... the rest of the band won't know what hit 'em. The 1001s are awesome and have REALLY dropped in price since the Fusion heads came out. Well worth the $.

Backlines are ok - played around with them for a while but they don't quite have it compared to their main lines. Best advise I can give you. Spend on quality. It is far better to get quality pieces now (and get fewer of them and build it up over time) than to buy a bunch of crap and then try to upgrade later (I am not saying Backlines are crap).

I have the 800rb run through a 610, and I don't lack for power at all.

I'm not seeing the 1001rb price drop, Oddjob. Was that a recent thing? For as long as I've been considering one, they've been about 749.

    Do you have a link?

    Thanks!

    +1

You can get a 1001RB-II brand new shipped for $600 at RMC Audio - Offering the best for less since 1993 - 877.222.7457. Everywhere else they are $749.99 plus shipping and tax. They also have top notch customer service.

Also the Neo 212s are $550 shipped and the Neo 115s are $450 shipped. Let me know if you need more convincing.

    Biamped

GK800RB must be biamped using two enclosures, but newer ones like the 700 or 1001 have speakon connectors, that allow to wire those two signals directly splitted to a GK enclosures, those that have speakon connectors. I´m right?

GKs kick ass. They are the dogs as far as I am concerned for amplifying Stingrays and Sterlings.

I don't rate tube amps for EBMMs Gk is where it is at
All work and no play make Homer something something

I've been using a 700RB for the last 5 years without a single problem.
The 800RB is a great amp, very powerful.
I don't recomend the backline amps, for a little more you can get a real GK.

+1. I use a 1001RB-II & a Neo 212, and it blows the drummer & 3 guitar players off the stage! I'm thinking of getting a second cabinet.
