HH vs HS and why you chose it.

I did a search HH vs HS but nothing came up.

Be it Bongo, Stingray or Sterling please share the reasons you went with an HH or HS configuration.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I just bought a couple of Bongos. I was fortunate enough to be able to sample all 3 pickup configurations. I honestly couldn't choose between HH and HS, so I took the HH home with me and ordered an HS in a different colour to the one I tried.

To me the HH gives a big fat tone with lots of variation. Very powerful. The HS is a lot more civilised but cool in its' own way.

I'm a big fan of the EBMM single coil pickup and have one on my H/S Bongo 5 (Jewel). Soon there will be a Sterling DD H/S in da house.

The H/H has a wider sound palate, but the single coil can do something the H/H can’t do and whatever that is, I like it!

H stingrays for me, only cause I've never tried any other pup configs, and the 3band eq is so intuitive and beefy.
HH SR5 for me, for versatility and added beef in the lowest parts of the spectrum...it's my 'mellow' ray.
H/S on my incoming sterling and bongo, cause EBMMs are like pokemon.

"HH vs HS and why you chose it."

Well, my HS Sterling chose me

I live 50 miles from nowhere and there are no stocking dealers near me to try either/or out. I was intrigued by the new multi pickup Sterlings and kept me eyes open. Found one for sale on line, used (barely!) for a ridiculous price and missed it by mere seconds to another buyer. That buyer turned out to be an internet buddy (and member here) who decided after getting it in that it didn't float his boat so he sold it to me.

I had to thin the herd and was looking for a fiver so I traded it here for a SR5, and then missed the HS a great deal. Started looking on line for another (or an HH) to fill the void and after posting a WTB ad I received a reply from the other end of the country offering a black/maple HS Sterling. I looked at the pics and for heaven's sake it was MY old HS Sterling!

Naturally I brought it back home

And they lived happily ever after......

Thanks for all the comments so far.
I have a H Sterling and have noodled around with a HH Bongo at GC, and most recently a HS Sterling. I haven't found an HH Sterling or Stingray to try out yet.

I guess I was hoping for more of a side by side comparison. Anyone have one of each who would like to share a little insight? I'm guessing that either the HS or HH configuration would help bring out the D and G strings that seem to get lost on my Sterling?

    Thanks.

My apologies to bassmonkey. I should have said a more "detailed" comparison.

You know what, I was writing that first reply and thinking all the time, no words can do this justice.

Jack is a pretty good writer, maybe he can be more eloquent in his description of the differences. It is very difficult to put into words how each configuration sounds.

I think the bottom line is that there is no such thing as a bad EBMM bass, so whatever you end up with you will be happy.
