Even us Apple guys have to use non-Apple peripherals. I had an external HD go south recently, so I also feel your pain. Fortunately, I was able to get it to mount temporarily and got SOME of the files off before it died. FWIW, I've had pretty good luck with AcomData drives.

I've been thinking about an external HD, but I've heard from multiple people that they crash often. I need to find one that won't do that!
Why would an external drive crash any more often than an internal one? A drive is a drive is a drive. The fact that it's in a separate box is irrelevant.
Actually, if you buy an external drive that's only for backup, you can leave it switched off when you're not actually backing up. It should therefore last longer than your internal drive.

BP: "I am very proud of many of the creations at ebmm but none more than the Bongo. Every day the cult grows and it makes it all worthwhile."
Hope everthing turns out for you, Eric. Good luck.
Sorry to hear you lost sfuff Eric
About safe on disc: We, and the printer we use, have always done CD and later dvd back up, but lately we have found old discs ruined, so now we're looking at other alternatives.
So i'm saying a burnt CD or DVD isn't for life, not even stored like we do, safe dark climate controlled, adn we always use the "best" discs available.
bovinehost: Yes, I do agree with that, but if there's nothing wrong then there's nothing wrong.
Beth: I would compare Bongo to Tommy Lee Jones. Bad a$$ and just hot in a weird way...
cheezewiz: They should take their lace thongs off and play bass.
