    OT: I made Senior Chief!

One of only 35 in my community in the entire Navy!

For the Army/Marine types that's: First or Master Sgt

I am now only one below the highest rank possible in the enlisted career path (Master Chief = Sgt Major or Master Gunnery Sgt).

Time to buy a new bass huh?

Frank, that is an impressive achievement!!! Congratulations!!!!! Nosey question, don't answer if it's too personal -- how long have you been in the military? What do you do in your job?

    Congratulations again!

I'm going through my 17th year. I will quit when they drag me away kicking and screaming (probably around the 30 year mark). I'm a CSCS aka Culinary Specialist aka Stew Burner. And not even a good one

Heck I can't even remember the last time I cooked anything. Like most senior NCOs my job is more about enforcing regulations and maintaining standards. My biggest job here in Naval base San Diego is the physical fitness program. I am responsible for making sure that the 400 odd folks under me are mission ready. But my real job is Chief of the Base Galley (I have about 50 cooks working for me)

Geez, now I have to stop calling you jefe and switch to jefe mayor.

Frank, that's two words and I'm just not going there.

Congrats, man - some of my best friends were Senior Chiefs.

Many congrats! Joining the military was what I was going to do until they said I couldn't take a bass to basic training...

    Congratulations. That's an admirable accomplishment.

My father made Chief Master Sgt. in the Air Force (that's the highest you can go in the enlisted core) and at the time he was one of, if not the youngest to ever achieve that rank.

He seemed to feel that he had more repect from the people who worked under him than he would have had he become an officer (which he could have easily done).

    Way to go!

should've inquired about the band gigs.

    Thanks everyone!

Jack, I'm #28 on the list.... I won't get paid til.... like next year So all I will be is an overdressed Chief

Beth, it's 1600 (you DO know how to tell military time right?). Liberty call!

Stank: Basic is but two months long (in the USN). After that you can have your bass and even try out for the Navy Band (you get nice gear and once your rank is sufficient, you get roadies also).

Fresno, you know what they say about NCOs. We are the ones who run the services, the officers just sign paperwork.

MD, I've been applying for CWO for the last two years. I promised myself that I will stop if I pick up E-8. I will give it one more shot this year and then I'll just stay on the enlisted side. I am hoping to make E-9 and then I'll get into the Command Master Chief program. That's the enlisted advisor to the Commanding Officer and the top dog enlisted person in an activity.
