I'm not a pre-EB expert but it looks good to me.

    neckplate,bridge/strings-thru, headstock, trussrod
all appear accurate for a '79. It's a heavy sucka too!

The pickguard appears to be non-original

That is the ugliest sunburst I've seen in a long, long time.

I think the tort is messing it up. Black would be better. My bigges "huh" is the price. I guess I have no appreciation for vintage. I don't get it.

+1 and they know how to spray a nice VSB:

EB also does a great job mating 2-piece bodies. I've seen quite a few pre-EB
Rays with drastically different color tones and grain patterns on 2-piece bodies.

The only old skool MM I'd blow money on would be a Sabre.

Even then I'd likely just get a dual pickup Sterling instead.

Although I never thought I would say this about any bass, that tortoise shell guard looks like crap on that bass.
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

It obviously is a preEB, 3-bolt/string-through, but the only way of proving if it's a '79 is to remove the neck and show the body/neck dates.

The price is outrageous! Typical dealer! It's no suprise he hasn't been able to sell it all year. Although a month ago, someone else did sell a nice minty sunburst '80/81 with 4-bolt neck for $2200 on ebay...still kinda suprising.

Pickguard is not original, it should be black on that era, like mine...

+1 Black is the only real option with baccy burst. Tort is great with sunburst though.
