Lightbulb Speculation on the futur of 5 string balls

    Just curious,

Seeing how the 20th SR5 has alnico pickups and parrallel wiring, and the Sterling 5 on the horizon. Do you think the future SR5's will be wired in parallel like it's 4 string siblings, and the Sterling 5 and 4 both be wired in Series.

I ask this because I personally prefer the Alnico/parallel sound with the multiple pickup configurations, which is why I'm moving forward in ordering a 20th SR5.

    Just wondering
    Henry

i dunno cuz im not BP, Dargin or Dudley... but id venture to guess that since the sr5 is one of (if not THE) most popular 5 string out there its probably gonna stay as is

the 20th's a BFR-ish instrument (EB folks correct me if im wrong) so it gets "special" features. Also, Pops has said that he likes keeping anniv. instruments in their realm but a bit different. So... the 20ths an anniv. and (i think) BFR-ish so its made with teh tried and true sr5 recipe but with some garnish and spice tossed in. thats what makes the LE stuff special

All I know is, if that gold isn't in that cave, then it has to be somewhere else.

Also, the main reason I bought a 20th SR5 is because of the sculpted neck heel, a feature that makes me pollute my britches with delight every time I pick up my Sterling. I'm assuming since it is a special run, that won't make it to the usual SR5 basses. The Sterling 5 on the other hand, well, I couldn't wait that long to find out.

Just be sure not to give yourself any lip, or get mouthy. And, for the love of god, make sure you don't send yourself a PM.

What it sounds like is that there makeing a real STINGRAY but with 5 strings and calling it a Sterling 5?

I wish they would call it a stingray 5 and the and current stringray 5 be called a Sterling 5, either way would cause confusion...

    Well, that's confusing.

Let's say the Sterling 5 has a three way switch. Then what?

I think they're on the right track. The current SR5, while is shares some electronics with the current Sterling, is its own animal, to be sure. Some might say it's even become an industry standard.

I think, no matter what WE think, that it would be marketing insanity to go changing the name at this point.

What we should have learned here is that if we sit and wait patiently, something cool happens.

    Who's with me?
