help me pick out my new rig

I'm getting married next year, and my fiance agreed to let me got a nice 4 and 5 string and a nice amp before we start saving up to have a baby. I really want a SR4 and a SR5. I for sure want a 4 string SR, but was thinking I should maybe get a bongo for the 5 string. I also debating what pup configuration to get. I really like the classic H, but a HH would be nice as well. As for amps, i'm thinking of getting a Gk 1001 rb and a neo cab.

    Go Bongo for the 5er!!!

While my main axe is an HS, if I was buying right now I'd go with a single-H, maybe even Hp. It's just a killer sound.

Of course, you can still find 30th Anniv SR4's if you look hard enough and there's bound to be 20th Anniv SR5's on eBay soon so grabbing one of each wouldn't be a bad idea.

As for the amp, the GK stuff is solid and has it's big supporters but many of us have gone to Markbass. Check 'em out!

You can't go wrong with Ampeg, and they have the best warranty in the business! 5 years on their amps and 2 years on their speakers.

When it comes to amps, I've played them all, Markbass takes the cake!

I'd say a Sterling HS and a Bongo 5 H through MarkBass amps.

as far as SR4s go... no reason not to get an HH... unless you're looking into a 30th anniv. if you're looking for a normal sr4 - get an HH.

as far as 5 strings - i dunno

    amps and cabs?

I like the GK 1001rb and the Markbass Little Mark 2 a lot. I have em both. I've used em both with my Aguilar GS410 and they sound rad.

    Ive played a 1001rb w/ a neo 2x12 at Randy's house and that sounded awesome as well with a bongo 4hh, sr4hh, sr4, sr5 and sterling H

    i hate ampeg heads

I have never been able to test drive a MarkBass, so I cannot comment.

As for Ampeg, yea I know that every last one of them now (even the top of the line SVT-VR) are all made in China, but if you love growl then IMO they can't be beat. Even EBMM artists Dave Larue and Tony Levin use them!!!

No arguments from me Jax, I was just being a smart ass. I'm looking at an old V4 right now in a pawn shop.
I've had Ampeg gear in the past and for the most part it was great.
Now I'm a Mesa Boogie man, YMMV
Where do you play in Jax? I'm 1 1/2 hrs away.

Where in Indiana do you live Mobass? I live just south of Ft. Wayne. If you aren't too far away, you're welcome to come check out my Markbass LittleMarkII.

I don't know how far you are from Chicago, but it would definitely be worth a trip. I know that the Arlington Heights GC always has a ton of Markbass.

I'm using a 30th Anniversary SR4 through a Genz-Benz 750 and 2x12 cab. This has worked extremely well for me up to mid-sized gigs. Many compliments from the band and the audience... Only downside is the 30th might be too nice to take out!
