    Old Sterling bubbled paint

My 12 year old Sterling is sufferring from bubbled and cracked paint, and it is getting worse and worse, around toggle switch slot, the bit on the top side of the neck pocket around the neck plate......... Oh yeah trust me, it is nice and crispy!!

It is really doing my head in Anyone's got similar problems?? Is it normal for its age?? Is it gonna get even worse, unitl it looks like a two tone "sunburst" or should I say "paintburst" or maybe eventually a featherless chicken?? If so, then I might begin considering having the paint redo later on in the year.

Kasim (are you a Kasim Sulton fan? I am):

Definitely not normal for a 12 year old MM bass to be peeling. Sounds to me like it's been exposed to environmental factors that weren't good for it. I've been around basses a while now and have only seen that happen when something has interacted badly with the finish. Extreme temps, prolonged sunlight or maybe a chemical reaction to something would be my guess.

Due to the avalanche of medical bills I have had this year, I am currently "without balls".

Sorry to hear that. I would imagine that it's only going to get worse. It's not normal, but who's to say what the paint may have come into contact with over the years. Call customer service. They may be able to help you with stopping it from getting worse or with getting it fixed.

Well, Yes Kasim, but I am Kasim R not Kasim S

Due to work reason, I have not play bass for something like 10 years. The Sterling was in a gig bag and my 71 Jazz was in a hardcase, so say they were literally mummified. Only until 6 months ago, they were dug up.

Jack, you are correct to a certain degree, Hong Kong is definitely not the coolest place on Earth.

Obviously it's not going to be a warrantee issue, but no one knows theses basses like they do. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

Do yourself a favor. Don't email, call, and ask to talk to Dan McPherson about this.

    Probably GMT -7.

Haven't you considered that the possibility of this paint bubbling may be due to the bass wanting to change itself into a 12 year old Corvette Stingray? I mean paint/rust bubbles give it the 12 year old look!

After all, Sterling's are wannabe Stingray's hehehehehe

This is going to start a new customer service thread.

What is happening is that customer service is getting swamped by the forumites. Ten percent of the calls from forunites are now valid. We have been tracking.

Not to humiliate Jack in public, but this is an example of calling Dan is way out of line. A phone call over a 12 year old bass where dan has to drop everything and not service his already maxed out dealer load is just unfair to us.

please read my new thread as the abuse of customer service is over the top.

Please understand that each of these people try really hard and have a full workload already.
    Two requests, please
Please contact customer service prior to posting instrument issues
    Please don't PM me
    Thanks

Please dont add me as a friend on facebook....my life is an open book here as it is.
