Good Times........are you like J.J.........kid dynomite?
It costs a lot of money to almost die.
Listening to some Little Willies and working out some standard (but weird) country-ish changes and thinking, "Why is this single H Stingray so kick-ass?"
Other than the green paint and martini inlays, it's "just" a Stingray, but it's making me unbelievably happy.
How's that Bongo treating you?
Jack
the Bongo is rad dude. i like it a lot. im a big fan of the pickup pan knob. the subtle difference you get kick ass. im dreaming of an HS sterling with a selctor switch and the pan knob - now that's would be an endless barage of tones dude!!!
now this is shocking, well if you know me; my fav setting so far on the EQ is to boost the bass a hair and completely cut the treble and high-mids. i pan it a bit towards the neck, but again, just a hair
the Bongo feels different and makes me play different. i dont think ive used a pick with it at all. and that whole "there not enough room to slap/pop on an HH Bongo" thing is complete BS; there's plenty of room and sounds rad.
this guy likes it too

Hoo, yeah. I am completely addicted to that pan knob. I can appreciate the switch on the SRs and Sterlings, but give me a pan knob any old day.
It's....different. 'Course, right now, my faves have one pickup, so who cares?
Whoa, that IS shocking, you punk, you. I cut the treble on EVERYTHING but play way back near the bridge for definition. It works on the Bongo particularly well.
Welcome to my world.
Careful what you ask for.
Since you guys are talking about Bongo blend pots, I'm wondering something....
They just reviewed a Jazz preamp in the latest Bass Player magazine, and they went ga-ga over the "active mixing" function of the preamp's blend pot, which supposedly gets you "a smooth uniform scan across all pickup combinations and the sound never gets muddy" *, because otherwise "using a passive mixing system can often leave a bass with 3 usable tones" *.
So my question is: does the Bongo have "active mixing"? Or is this just all fancy-pants talk meant to sell product? Everything I hear about the Bongo would suggest that it has way more than "3 usable tones".
(* = per the company's website)

Swiss Army knife the Bongo may very well be, but it is no substitute to the killer SR4!
