Smile Waiting for my first MusicMan

    Hi guys!

A few months ago I did something that many people would consider a little crazy... I ordered an Ernie Ball / Musicman Stingray 5 in natural color, maple neck w/ matching headstock and black pickguard (I just love this configuration) from my local dealer to Ernie Ball. I say this because is always a shot in the dark to order an instrument before buying it, and I do recognize this...

However, I also recognize my absolute confidence in Ernie Ball in the quality department. I believe sincerely that the bass will arrive here (in Portugal) in perfect condition, still smelling new...

I guess that in about a month or so I can expect a Stingray 5 in my house , and I barely can wait. I found myself dreaming with it a few times till now...

I play in a rock band, with some influences from Dave Matthews Band, Pink Floyd and Radiohead, but working on a style different than . My bass influences on the other hand are deep and old school funk, jazz fusion, and I'm currently studying Jaco Pastorius and Victor Wooten. Slap n' Pop, tapping and harmonics are my favourite techniques.

I read almost everywhere that the SR 5 is one of the favourites amongst heavy metal bass players, due to its fat, deep and agressive sound. Honestly, I am not the greatest fan of metal. My influences are the ones that I wrote above, but I believe that this bass will furfill my needs in every aspect.

This was my first post. By the way, greetings to all EB/MM fans !

Welcome to the forum. You'll love the SR5.

I hope the dealer didn't charge you extra for the matching headstock.

    Thanks, guys .

And yes, mynan. The dealer did charge me extra for the mathing headstock. I thought that was part of the procedure... or isn't it?

Is there a difference between a standard headstock and a "natural" matching headstock? If there is, I didn't know.

To be honest with you, I made myself the exact same question a few weeks ago... and I still don't know!

Didn't even thought about it when I ordered the bass! I kicked myself for not thinking about it!!

    Well, what's done is done.

    Thanks, Mynan and Spectre!

And yes, I'm thrilled and agonizing!

By the way, I have one question. I read some reviews that said that the SR5 had poor harmonical response, mostly on the higher pitches. I don't know whether this is true or not, but its worrying me because harmonics are fundamental in my playing style.

Does anyone can enlight me about this? Thanks

That is a new one, poor harmonics .... phhtttt

My SR5 sings true, finger, pick (tho rare I use), chords, and anything else I throw at it, upper register and lower.

I say someone feeding bad information.
You are getting a kick *ss bass.
If you tell me different when you get it, then I'll post a picture of me in my undies, holding a bass. ... never mind, that's already been done

I don't use a lot of harmonics, but my guess would be that since it is an EBMM and naturally (with the eq flat) has that growly midtone, I can see why someone might think that higher-register harmonics might not come through very well, but by turning up the highs a bit, it's not hard to get nice, bright, tone out of the SR5.

I certainly hope your dealer doesn't charge you for the "matching headstock".

The matching headstock charge is for painted or basses of color. The standard neck/headstock finish is natural, and since you ordered a natural finish bass....

Welcome to the forum. Hang out here and have fun while waiting for your SR5. Then some more after you get it and get the urge for the Bongo 5.

    Really just have fun here.
