    Question Extnesion CABS

alright, so now that i have decided i dont want to get new pick-ups, the next alternative is an extension cab. now the question that taunts me for hte roads ahead, is which will be suiting to my needs. i am aware that its ultimatly my taste, but what would match a 15"speaker that i use. what would still work for me later, when i need more and more power. i have a workingman's 15, its a 160watt out the 15, and then with an extension i get a total of 200, so i belive 100 to each... antoehr question remains, is this just a temp fix? or would i be better just getting an entirely new rig?

    thnx.

o btw, if it was and extension cab, i'd be wiling to get a really high quality unit. but nuthing more than 5or 6 hundred, cuz im sorta low on cash.

well if you are going to want more and more power down the road, then just buying an extension cab would be a temporary fix. i dont know the exact specs of your amp but im assuming its a combo. if this is so it could be a temporary fix or it could be just what you need. if your amp has an xlr line out you can get an extention cab for the combo to power, then buy a power amp and more cabs as needed. and if you needed even more power you could get more power amps and cabs.

If I were you I'd buy a 2x10 cabinet. Assuming your current 15" is 8ohm, you would need an 8ohm cabinet (so you end up with a combined load of 4ohms. Most on the market are 8 ohms. However, if the 15" in your combo is 4ohm, then you're faced with a conundrum - sure, you can buy a 4ohm cabinet, but a 4 ohm cab will restrict your future options. So, first thing, check the impedence of the 15" speaker that is in your combo.

Further down the track you can ditch your combo, buy a more powerful head, or a rack mounted preapm/power amp rig. Then you can add another cabinet whenever your like.
    Cheers
