That looks nice but the serial Number doesn't seem to match Gavs list????
Also what about the control panel it looks bumpy
The serial does match up. The X's are "hidden" digits, I guess. But the part before the blocked out numbers does match up with Rod's website.
As for the bumpy control plate, I'm assuming that's just the reflection of the ceiling.
In any case, lovely! I wanna try out these one day, but that's just wishful thinking, eh? Hehheh
What I mean is all the sabre serial numbers on gavs website start with a C not a B???
Good observation. However, Rod's website says, "Early EB Sabres used left-over MM Sting Ray bridges with the "B" numbering system." So I guess this Sabre is an early model! Not only is this thing a beaut, it's even more rare than previously perceived!
I'd place it as a circa 1988 Bass.
The Pre-EB "horse shoe" bridge with the "C" prefixed serials ceased when EB took over MM.
On the early EB Sting Rays...and Sabres appear to have followed suit...(circa 1985 to 88), two bridges (and two serial numbering systems) were used:
* N.O.S. Pre-EB Sting Ray bridges (sporting the "B" prefixed 6 digit serial)
* EB made a similar bridge (sporting their own unprefixed 5 digit serial)
From circa 88, the N.O.S. Pre-EB bridge disappears and only the unprefixed 5 digit bridge remains.
IMO, a very desirable Bass and appears well looked after. From a collectors perspective, it seems to be a good example of:
*last of the Pre-EB bridge and "B" serial
*introduction of a new headstock logo (a similar one appeared on the circa 88 'Ray and am sure the Sabre again followed suit)
Yummy
EDIT:
Initially I had added the following as a feature:
" *last of the bullet truss rod "
That is wrong. The bullet truss rod continued untill production of the Sabre ended in 1991. It appears that the capstan truss wheel was never a feature of the Sabre.

Jump on it!!!![]()
>>>>Jump on it!!!
not literally![]()
I should point out that the N.O.S. Pre-EB bridges, used by EB (with the "B" prefixed serials) were not necessarily appointed to Basses in a chronological order.
>>>> *last of the Pre-EB bridge and "B" serial
is meant in the sense that the circa 1988 Basses were the last models to use these particular Pre-EB bridges.
Very nice, I heard on other threads about the clear pick guard but this is the first one I have seen..... very nice!
This is a sexy bass..................only if you like the Sabre
Hey now!
There's another odd but beautiful little ditty on the "Bay"!

I've never seen an EB MM SR with that kind of color before! It makes me think it's a pre-EB, but the headstock says no. In any case, it's a lovely little thing and reminds me of the mentos that I was eating earlier today.
Very nice colour looks like sea foam green
could it be a refin???
Scott...looks like Seafoam Green to me. Another favourite of mine.
It's the first 'Ray I've seen in that finish but maybe it's original.
Update: Fuzzy Dustmite has got a link of this jewel on a brand spankin' new thread! Check it out!
