Piezo Option

I noticed on an older post that someone had MP3's of their SR with the piezo. those links are no longer valid - and i was wondering if anyone else could help or point me in the right direction. I would really like to hear the piezo feature, etc.

My local dealers don't have one that's piezo equiped - but they can order one - but i'm committed to it if i order it. so i'd like to hear one before doing so.

Would you be interested in imitating the sound of an acoustic-electric bass guitar? If so, get it. If not, consider it because you can get a distinct sound with the Piezo/Humbucker blend.

Personally I wouldn't go for the piezo. I agree that the sound might be distinctive, but not that distinctive in order to pay such a difference. In the Bongo I'd go for it, but not on a SR. Do you need this option so much? If you buy a fretless you have some reason ok. but not on the fretted.

The Planet Guitar (Germany) site has some StingRay samples. #4 is the piezo pickup only.

One more thing -

For those of you that have experience with the piezo option - How does it compare to the samples in the above posting? Sometimes recordings such as these can be misleading...

Here's my honest opinion on that website: Don't trust it.

Why? Merely because of the Bongo samples they've done before. There were effects and such running alongside the Bongo. Result? You don't get the actual sound of the Bongo - just a "processed" sound.

I agree - My bongo sounds good - but that site makes it sound... well... different.

Why the hell would someone do something as horrible as that?!?

i think adding a piece is quite costly (for me)
as the other mentions
as long you dont really want to imitate acoustic / upright sound
better not to go with it ...

if you want ..
following is what i will do
1. instead of putting piezo on fretted, i rather do it on fretless
2. i might as well save up and spend on a REAL acoustic bass

What is the going cost on a SR5 w/ piezo?

The piezo pickup has some very distinct features. It cuts mids and highs, and boosts the low. The main problem with it is that it has a lot of string noise. It's pretty hard to play it with a pick, but if you blend it with the mag and cut treble a little it sounds great.

It does offer more versatility to the bass and it allows you to take the bite out of the bass when you need to. Not just accoustic gigs, but for slower songs as well.
