    any tips on 100W combos?

So i have a budget of probably about £200-£250, that' $400-$500 to you yanks... in your experience what 100W combo amps could make a sub bass sound to it's full potential? I have a behringer ultrabass BX1200 and it's just so muddy. I was thinking ashdown but i thought i might get the same problem. There's the Ampeg Ba115, but that's a little expensive, but i know it has a nice sound, does anyone else know of any amps with this sort of sound? Any experience with the gallien krueger backline combos? Or 100W ish laney combos? Or anything else available in the UK for £450 ($500) or less?

    Thanks guys.

Ashdown is great, don't confuse that with what you currently have. Also, I think Ashdowns are great value in the UK!

Edit: Just saw you might spend 450 or so, then you can probably get a new MAG410-300 (that's what I think it's called), it's a little heavy but a lot of sound and plenty of power!

bovinehost: Yes, I do agree with that, but if there's nothing wrong then there's nothing wrong.
Beth: I would compare Bongo to Tommy Lee Jones. Bad a$$ and just hot in a weird way...
cheezewiz: They should take their lace thongs off and play bass.

    Un,

One of the bass amps that I have is the Ampeg you mentioned. I think "for the price" it's a great combo amp. Works well with the MM basses (again for the price!)

Also, light enough to carry and jam with (if elevated to ear level of players).

just put flats on the bongo!!

    trussrod adjustment:
less relief / flatter = lower action
more relief / bow = higher action
do NOT use cheap tools to adjust with. they might break and scrape up your pressious!
also, if you are lucky enough to have a 100th namm sr4: the truss works the other way around on that one!

Can't go wrong with the Fender Bassman 150W 1x15 in that price range, or 250W 2x10 for just a bit more.

Not sure it is in your price range since I don't know prices in the UK but I'd suggest looking at any of the MarkBass combos.

    1. @ strummer, i meant $450 not £450, that mag is way out of my price range, wish it wasn't!

    2. yeah i still like thtat ampeg, if i can get enough money that's my primary choice

    3. I can never find anywhere that stocks gallien kuregers, has anyone played one?

    4. The fender bassman amps are more expensive over here.... although i could afford the rumble

I'm just looking for something really similar to that ampeg ya know? money's pretty tight right now to be honest.

I personally would avoid the GK Backline stuff and the Fender amps. I've had a Fender 100watt amp, but it really is for players who aren't concerned with their tone.

Go with the Ampeg. I'm sure you could find a good deal on a used Ampeg combo. Does the UK have craigslist? It's the way to go!

Man, you should be able to find a used Ashdown combo like the one I suggested (or the brother 115) or maybe a smaller Ashdown combo, they are great and pricing in the UK should be decent?
The Five Fifteen is about £150 HERE in sweden, so it should be a real great catch for you. 100 watts just like you asked for, and some dosh saved for future amplification.

Hmm, i may have to try a fender rumble out again, i had a quick go on one when i bought my tobias, but i played with the bass more than the amp...

Also i know The five fifteen is pretty cheap, but i already have a cheap behringer, looking for some quality this time ya know? I'm definately bearing ashdown in mind though, i do like them, particularly how they look.
