SR5 Lever.... What does it do?

    SR5 Lever.... What does it do?

    EBers!

    I picked up a new Sr5 H a couple of days ago and really can't see how/why I would use the lever switch beyond in the middle setting (which sounds best to me).

    Do you folks use the 3 settings? If so, why/when?

    Rear = parallel coil wiring (classic StingRay wiring is parallel)
    Middle = single coil
    Front = series coil wiring (for fatter mids)

    No disrespect but I would have to disagree that series gives a fatter sound. I've found that the lows are more present in parallel.

    The only setting I really don't use is the single coil setting. Really doesn't do anything for me. Series and parallel are great though.

    I think brent is asking a situational question as opposed to a wiring question.

    Never owned an SR5 so I'm not much help.

    I use all the settings.

    Oddly enough I seem to hear their nuances better when my bass is strung with flats.

    I find with the switch towards the bridge sounds the roundest. I dont like to add to much bass on the eq on this setting.

    If I want to add some lows on the basses eq I switch to the middle setting. For my touch, I can add lows and it seems to be less boomy than the other two settings.

    With the switch towards the neck, I hear a bit more low mids. This setting seems to cut through pretty well for fingerstyle rock.

    Thanks. I should have been more clear as I know what the settings are. I am wondering when/why any of you use the difeerent settings.

    To be perfectly honest, I don't notice a difference with the lever either. I generally use the parallel (bridge) position because I 'think' it sounds fatter and sometimes I use the single coil mid-position because I 'think' I'm getting a cool single coil sound. As I said in a different thread-- I love the tone of my SR5!!!!

    I always keep my SR5 H in parallel (towards the bridge). I find series very hot - too hot for my taste.
