I played my first Bongo 5 HH today...

Let me start by saying, I love my SR5's and love the quality and craftmanship. I too was one of those who didn't like the looks of the Bongo. I thought they looked strange, and didn't look like MM's. Well I finally tried out a 5 HH and let me tell you the weight was lighter than expected.

I mean if there's one thing that I wish, is that my rays could be a little lighter. I play 3 long sets a night and by the end of the night, my shoulder is a little sore.

Now back to the Bongo. I really liked the feel of the neck. It was very easy to play, but I wonder why they only come in rosewood? Could that be to prevent neck dive? I really love my maple necks. Anyway, the EQ was very wide and flexible with many tones that I could tune in. There was almost TOO many possibilties! Also, I thought the knobs were a little plasticy feeling? Not sure if you guys know what I mean. Anyway, I can see a Bongo in my future, but I have to wait a bit as I have a Sterling 5 on the way!

I think the reason for no maple fretboard Bongos is that BP didn't like the look...

What kind of strap do you use? I have a 4 1/2" Levy strap that makes my basses feel lighter. If a strap won't help you, you need to suck it up.

Bongo knobs are metal, you're imagining things because they're black.

So making Bongos with Rosewood necks was merely for esthetic purposes? That's interesting, and I wonder if BP would make that optional. I would love to see/hear a bongo with a maple neck.

The words "mass per unit volume" come to mind... No means no, guys.
