Played my first gig with flats!

I just put D'addario chromes on my SR5 Blue Dawn and let me tell you WOW!

I love the thump I get out of flats! I mean my band plays a wide variety of covers from Motown to heavy rock and I love the way the flats sound on the motown stuff. I make up the set lists so I arranged most of the songs together that would benefit from this sound. I must say that it had it's limitations, but overall sounded great!

Do you guys have any other brands of flats for 5ers that you would recommend?

I'm not a D'addario type of guy, but mite try the EB's.
    John

I use flats.. on my Bongo5.
The heaviest EB flats I can find.
I usually have to buy a 4 string set and the low B as an extra ..
Expensive that way but I can not get them any other way here..
Had to put a couple of cranks on the truss rod to bring the neck back into line
    once installed.
We play a huge variety of tunes and I can't say they have limited
    or compromised the bass parts..
    Gotta love the EB strings..

yea same, never tried flats, but ive a pack of d'addario chromes ive been meaning to try

flats have a bit more tension so is it necessary to tweak the truss rod a lil after stringin with them?

I've always used flats (Chromes) on my Basses, but this past week I put on a set of roundwounds to get some serious GROWL out of my Bongo. I detest string noise but have tried to not notice it. You can't get a lot of GROWL out of Flats, but the tone you do get is smooth and warm, playability is also superb..........

I did notice that the action was raised a bit after installing the flats. So I need to increase the tension on the neck right? I haven't had to touch the adjustment on any of my balls yet. Which way do I turn the wheel?

    Lefty loosey, righty tighty?

I'm running DR flats now. I'll be converting every bass I own to them, except for the 2 Warwicks

    Chromes on all three basses.

And yes, it will growl. Bump the mids and grab a pic!

I tried the EB flats for the first time on my SR5 (model 2810 or something like that). After playing with them a couple of weeks, I've decided that I like them ALOT! Of course, my SR5 sounds great with Slinkys too.

    Best wishes,
