    Straplocks included with new basses?

Back in January i ordered my New 2008 LE Stingray HS, i can;t wait to recieve it. But i was curious i have heard alot of rumors that the straplocks were finally going to be available around this time this year and was wondering if there were any plans to include them with new instruments. NOt that i need them but it would be a nice bonus for after my long wait...

    Anybody have any info?

    Thanks

I dont think we were ever told if that was going to be happening but I do remember hearing that the new EB straplocks would use the existing strap peg thats already on EB guitars and basses.

I'm sure someone who knows more will chime in.

Yeah i heard that the screws were going to be the same so you wouldn't have to risk drilling into your baby but i don't think they're going to send them out as standard with their basses. Doesn't seem like a great marketing move to me. Nobody would buy them as they'll either come with the bass or those that don't have them will already have some other straplock system installed.

Is the EB system different to others?

I've just got a (used) Sterling and assumed that the pins would be compatible with my existing straplock system but they aren't! Is this an EB unique system or do Schaller/Dunlop etc do the fittings?

    Cheers

Every system is different. Dunlops don't work with standard buttons. Schallers don't work with standard buttons. Dunlops and Schallers use different buttons. I don't see why the EB straplocks would work with other manufacturer's buttons.

Sorry, to clarify; the Sterling has pins that accept a straplock of some kind. I have both Schaller and Dunlop fittings on my straps both of which work with the pins fitted on various basses that I own/have owned, as essentially though they are from different manufacturers they are the same size and shape. The endpin on the Sterling looks superficially the same as those fitted to other basses that I have but the end section is just too deep to accept either of my existing strap systems. Hence the question as to whether the EB/MM system is unique to these basses and has to be bought from EB?

I hope that makes more sense.

It will probably have to be purchased from EB if you want to keep your existing buttons, but we haven't seen the EB straplock system close up yet because they are new and the first shipments haven't hit the dealers yet...they are on backorder. Since EB has been in the process of developing their own straplock system, I wouldn't imagine that they would be shipping their basses with buttons that would work with another straplock system.

We must have our wires crossed, my fault. The bass I have is at least a few years old and I assumed that the end-pin was original so if EB are just releasing their own system then the system on my bass must have been retro-fitted, I'll just have to look around and try different fittings to establish what it is. Seems a shame there can't just be a standard size to make life easier!

    Competition, my friend...

I saw the pics of your Sterling and those look like the standard EBMM buttons, but I don't think they will work with the EB straplocks. From what I've read, the EB straplocks are going to work a little like the Schaller locks with the pin and ball-bearing going into the end of the button.

From what I gathered in this thread. The old-style buttons won't work, but the screws are the same.

I'm very exited about the new EB straplocks, I'm holding off putting straplocks on my new Stingray until the EBMM ones come out.
