    played my first sterling today

Having already owned a sub i didn't think it would be hugely different but DAMN BP, you make some nice gear! The neck felt slimmer widthways but a bit fatter in diameter than my SUB if you know what i mean. The neck was buttery smooth though, the neck on my sub was satin. but it's gone glossy through use though, but the neck felt really nice on this sterling. And the body was much smaller and the neck was thinner so more playable for the more widdly bits, really nice stuff.

Also the guy that owned it had a markbass 2X10" combo so it sounded AMAZING, no word of a lie. I didn't think it would sound that much different but that amp REALLY did it justice. Also how light are those markbass amps??!!! I'm really impressed, shame i just bought an ampeg and can't afford either! Oh well, one day....

Oh and on a sidenote i was doing sound for this band tonight and their bassist cut though stupidly well all night, i felt like turning him down a bit at times. Well done BP!

I love them all but the Sterling is my favorite! The sound, the feel and the size are just perfect for me. But don't expect to ever see my Bongo's on eBay, I love them too!

The Sterling is the first MM bass I purchased. It looks, plays, and sounds great.

    It's a keeper!

Now you're like a lot of us here that prefer the Sterling over any other 4 string. I retired a 73Jazz bass after getting my first Sterling several years ago. Now I own 3 Sterlings, with another 4 string, and a 5 string on the way. They are very addictive!

Haha but now you see i'm confused! i'm still in love with the ray! The neck on the sterling although feeling thinner didn't feel properly proportioned, it felt too fat front to back... plus i love the look of a nice stingray! damn....

I'm now actually thinking single H ray in graphite pearl, translucent teal, or translucent pacific blueburst all with maple board and non-matching headstocks of course, it's all about the maple! Might go for one of those depending what's on ebay near christmas (or whenever i have the cash)

on ebay what you could get for your minty SUB these days you'd only be a couple of hundred or so off an SR4. especially one that slips through by most folks radar eg ernie ball stingray bass etc

have a look on basschat the uk bass forum. very busy for sale section on there, seen a few Rays and Sterlings at £600 or so of late

anyone who loves a J style neck would disagree with this

Hmm i'm not so sure, i've seen a few subs on ebay and nobody bids on them to be honest, and it's not so minty anymore got a few headstock dings and one on the body (not sure how that got there!) But i'll have a look at that forum, thanks! Ebay is another way to go...

I agree with you on the sterling neck, I didn't really like it. I have big hands with thumbs bigger than my middle fingers. I NEED a fat neck, love the Stingray neck. Although the sterling does sound phenomenal.
