Sorry guys I didn't mean to hijack the thread. It is the origin of the most recent Pontiac GTO, Vauxhall Monaro and HSV derivatives as well. It's a true blue Holden Monaro (2005, last model of the era). Great car! Due to to U.S. design regs requiring the gas tank to be located up gainst the back seats, the boot (trunk) is quite small. I certainly can't fit a standard HSC in there as its too long. Gig bag only. I haven't measured it yet but I expect I could quite comfortably fit the gig bag, LMII and the 2*10 with room to spare.

Im lucky enough to have a small car with an too large for any car trunk. Ive been known to fill my trunk with 4 by 10s and 2 15s easily. Even my mesa powerhouse 1000 fits, or I believe so (the box it came in fit nicely, havent tried the actual thing tho).

I tried some markbass stuff and was pretty impressed. For some reason IM not convinced this stuff is roadworthy. Anyone own markbass gear for a long time?

One year. Touring, going to rehearsal, doing venues in bars, etc.
No bag, no case, no rack.
    Many temperature and humidity changes.
No fuss. Constant tone. No trouble.

My best bassplayer friend is now selling his Ashdown ABM to get an LMII, exactly like I did last year (also had an ABM). He has been impressed by tone consistancy, light weight, tone, volume and dynamics.
So many changes coming in an ordinary bass player's life :
    - New cover band soon
    - New rock band soon
    - New trio soon
    - New bass soon (he he he...)

    Hi-

I'm interested in this bass amplifier and was just wondering if anyone had tips for set up/maintenance.

I switched from guitar to bass to be in a friend's band and feel a little lost in what to look for in a bass combo.

I'm using old gear from another band as we're getting started.

    thanks-
    Stevo

Long-time Markbass user here, starting with an S450 3-4 years ago, and adding a Littlemark 250 earlier this year for a back-up/practice amp (with Eden 1x10). No issues, no problems. Wonderful sound! I run them through a Bag End 15 and/or Ea VL 210.

I, too, own an F1 and love it; but mine only weighs about four-and-a-half pounds.

Hey, bigvissch, does that one have the 6.0L or the 5.7L V8? The new Pontiac G8 GXP with a 6-speed manual (another re-badged Holden) may tempt me to trade my new Honda Accord EX-L 5-speed manual. God, I love a V8 and the sounds it makes.

    Hi!

I compared Markbass LMII, F1 and Tecamp Puma 500 on saturday...

Puma + tecamp 2x10 is definitely a better solution... the sound is more clearly and brilliant, dry bass if you want and very neutral on flat settings... not a huge difference, but you can hear it!! Markbass+ markbass cabinet (2x10) was not that natural. Puma has a lot of power available + headroom and there is a 1000Watt model available too! The quality (housing, knobs) is better than Markbass. But the sound was deciding for me.
Simply test the equipment and see on your own.

Markbass is a great amp, but since the test, I definitely prefer Tecamp (price+weight with cabinets (XS series) are nearly the same!)

    greetings!

Thanks for the replies, especially on an older thread.

I should probably think of how it will sound in context of the band too. Kind of hard to do when you're in the show room hearing it by itself. Maybe I can convince by guitar player to come with me and play on an acoustic just to see how it goes along.

I played guitar for 14 years and just made the switch to bass a few months ago to round out the lineup for my friend's band. We're a three piece playing original music (I guess it's rock/indie rock, but I just think of it as groove rock).

Was using Line 6 guitar combos (guitar, not bass) before, but wasn't in a band. Just played at home for fun. So, first time in a band and going on stage too.

If you can believe it, at the moment our drummer (who has another band) has me playing through their gear:

Vox Pathfinder guitar combo, with the speaker muted, running into an Ampeg Cabinet or a Carvin cabinet, depending on whichever one he brings over.

Not good for the Vox amp I'm sure.

Guitar player is using a Mesa Boogie head on an Old Fender 4x12 cabinet. I'll get models and update this after our practice. It sounds really good and fuzzy, with thick sound. Bass has to gel underneath that.

Anyways, hope that gives everyone an idea of where I'm coming from.

Thanks again for being cool and helping me out.

I have got to seriously try one of these out. Hopefully I can find one at my local GC to give her a run through.

If anyone is interested in these, the GC on 14th Street in NYC has one avaialble on clearance for $549. I asked if there were any issues (scratch/dent etc.) and they told me it was just any inventory thing as its the last one and they won't be carrying them any more. I didn't play it, just happened to notice it when I strolled through the bass room - but at that price it might be worth it for someone to give them a call.

I tried markbass, but personally I have found EBS to be far better, for rock (both with plectrum and without I have found that the bottom end was better, to my ear and I got a far fatter slap sound with EBS than the Markbass, curious to hear about how well it fitted into the glove box of the porker boxster though!

The only amp I've ever really used my Laney, which I got as a gift some years ago, i love how it sounds, but I often do wonder about other amps...especially markbass. Everyone (especially here) just seems to love them.

Edit: I drive this...you can fit any amp in it.
