I'm curious too. I tried an SR 4 string HH at a store, I thought it was the closest thing to an SR5 HH which is what I have. I forgot the Stingray has Alnicos. I don't know if others hear what I heard---it was on the brighter side to me.

The ceramic pickup holds heat longer and the alnico just radiates it out into space.

I could offer up a comparison between Heinz (born 1999) and my 20th SR5, but I think there are other rather major differences between the two aside from the pickups.

But I just want to say - both of them kick serious ass.

I may have been obsessing over this lately, closely followed by Sterling 5's. As my interests have turned to 5 strings again.

I'm a left hander who plays right handed, so I guess that makes me confused.

Yes. The new SR5s (alnico/parallel) started shipping on March 12th of this year.

I'm surprised at the silence regarding the Alnico switch. I was expecting reviews of the "new" SR5 sound

So far I haven't seen one review

I'm guessing that most of the attention here (on this forum) is going to the Sterling5 right now...at least it seems that's what most of the new purchases posted here have been.

Outside of this forum, I'd guess that anyone who has purchased one of the new SR5s doesn't even know that there is a difference.

I have been looking and there is still a lot of SR5 2007 stock out there. Until that clears, there won't be much movement in the new alnico pickup world. The Sterling 5 is the new star right now and deserving of it. I just don't want to make a move until I have tried everything that interests me. Then I will pounce. So for right now I will once again assume vulture mode.
