Matte, painted finish and it feels amazing. I still like my bare wood STL5 neck...

Both mine have painted necks - didn't know they came otherwise.
:-)
Correct, all painted, but there's a satin gloss (I believe) clearcoat over the paint. Extremely good feel to it. I always suggest to anyone that has trepedations about the Bongo to just close their eyes - feel and tone are superb - though personally I like the looks too.

Does this paint/coating improve neck stabilitiy throughout humidity changes? My current bass, a cort curbow w/ a basic maple neck needs an adjustment if there is so much as a clowd in the sky. lol
Current GAS: fretless piezo equipped 6'er that booms, rooooarrrs and growls.
Any finish over wood is going to offer more protection from humidity changes than leaving the wood completely (no wax or oil) unfinished, but don't take that statement as saying that the other MM necks aren't protected from humidity. Fact is that nothing really is going to stop environment changes from changing the neck.
And besides, if an adjustment is needed, the truss wheel makes it easier than first grade math.

hmmm, all this time I thought they used easter egg dye.......one day I'll learn to read....maybe.
It costs a lot of money to almost die.
Yes, they are painted.
Depends on the conditions of where you are playing if an adjustment is needed. I play shows and we have some really wacky weather here. I have to adjust as needed. Really simple....usually a 1/4 turn one way or the other gets it done right.
"Welcome to the addiction!" is now patented by Koogie2k......if used by anyone other than Koogie2k....you must mail him a US nickel for each time said/typed or signed.......

From the factory they come with a satin finish, but with use this does wear glossy smooth (depends on the player and how much use). It never gets that sticky-icky polyurethane feel, though.

BP: "I am very proud of many of the creations at ebmm but none more than the Bongo. Every day the cult grows and it makes it all worthwhile."
I own two bongos and my older one has now a glossy neck from use. My 6er is still matte and I think it has something to do with me cleaning it EVERYTIME I take it down. Really makes a difference.
