    Question Musicman Stingrays

    Hi there,
I'm new to the forum and are unsure if this question has been asked before so I'm just going to ask it again!
I've been looking at the Stingray HH 4 string and was wondering, if you switched off the additional pickup, would it sound the same as a normal stingray (1 pickup).

    Thanks!

    Welcome aboard !

Personally I can't answer your question with any great accuracy since I've only owned a single pup MM..but trust me..you will get an answer.

As far as an assumption from me..if you were to A/B both, and both were identical necks and body woods...and the pups are in the same spot on both basses..I would imagine they would sound pretty darn close. So there are several factors to consider..I am sure someone will post an accurate response.

    Good Luck

The bridge H of the HH sounds close enough to the single H that woods and strings have more impact on the sound than any possibly minuscule difference of the electronics and pickups.
    Have bass. Will play.

Yup. They will sound the same.

    Details-wise:

The bridge pickup is the same on the HH and H
The bridge pickup's position is the same on the HH and the H as well
    Same preamp

the fundamentals that give you the Stingray tone (the mass of the bridge, the pickup, the pickup location & the preamp) are identical.

IMO it is the same sound.

That's not entirely correct. The single H has staggered pole pieces raised above the pickup cover, while the dual H has the pole pieces flush with the pickup cover. Different construction. They could therefore also have different windings.

Ok well thank you all for your help!
I think I might go for the HH as I like the versatility of it! Now just to find a way to get $3000 Australian, order a lefty, and wait a very long time!
