You didn't, really; it's just that if the S indeed isn't just a drop in, i.e., if its installation involves a buried second coil that wouldn't fit in the H rout, then knowing that would have saved me a lot of searching the web and arguing with you. ;^)

Yes, I am sure. I own both, and and had to change a pot on the preamp on my HS, and have observed the differences in person. Not sure how different the route is, though . . . IIRC, the bucking coil was in the preamp cavity . . . it's not a dummy pickup like on the (failing memory here . . ) Sterlings? (or was that the HS 'Ray . . ). It's a tad over an inch in diameter and round, and the preamp has a control on it to balance the dummy against the S pickup to null the hum.

That's interesting about the dummy coil. On the StingRay HS there's a complete pickup between the H and the S (making it virtually a HSS) but it is mounted beneath the pickguard and does not really work as a pick up anymore.
    Have bass. Will play.

All my basses has a dummy, me
bovinehost: Yes, I do agree with that, but if there's nothing wrong then there's nothing wrong.
Beth: I would compare Bongo to Tommy Lee Jones. Bad a$$ and just hot in a weird way...
cheezewiz: They should take their lace thongs off and play bass.

But it would work as a proper pickup if you were to cut a hole in the pickguard and expose it, sometime ago I saw a guy on youtube doing just that.

Like BP said, these dummy coils and dummy pickups are designed for one reason and one reason only - to pickup HUM (and *not* strings) so that the hum can be canceled from the "S" pickup that the dummy is paired with (Thats why the dummy in the Bongo doesn't seem to have any magnets or core whatsoever - it's not needed for what it's used for . . ).

So, if you want a pickup that is optimized for hum, go for it

Not to mention the lack of controls for the dummy . . . .

Just not a good idea in any way, shape, or form . . . .
