When I was trying out a bunch a few ago before I bought one, all of the maples seemed thick while the rosewoods seemed thin. It was pure perception, the eye is easily tricked and the brain follows, making it reality.

I bought a rosewood, but I'd bet my house that if properly measured, there would be little or no difference in thickness.
    What, me worry?

I don't know if this is the case for the OP, but it could have something to do with neck-wear.

This is an interesting post from BP about how they had a hard time getting the neck "just right" on the EVH guitar.

check the to see how the bass was set up. the measurements are all the same. but if the neck ajustment and the action is high or low. it can feel as if your playing a different bass. basses should get a pro set up twice a yaer. make sure you tell the guy how you like the bass set up. and most inportantly make sure he knows what he's doing.

I tried several new EBMM basses this weekend in a couple of stores and they all felt different, even some of the same model. Even the smallest differences can be felt on a neck and each one is individual.

I have found that the string height (action) often makes a neck feel thicker or otherwise.

Just a little tidbit from your old buddy Karl.

I have a 2008 LE H/S Stingray maple fb and a 2008 Stingray single H Rosewood. The rosewood neck, as expected, looks much thinner due to the visual difference between the woods. To this very minute I will swear that the maple neck feels much chunkier than the Rosewood ray, which feels much thinner and wider. I just grabbed my digital caliper and took some measurements of each neck. They are virtually the same with measurements varying barely 2 decimal places.

They still feel very different to me.
