Bright switch on preEB Sabre?

Hi, I own 79' MM Sabre. The electronics is original vintage musicman replacement, but, as the previous owner said, they didn't make this replacement with support of "bright" switch, so, I would like to bring that switch to functionality now. Any ideas how to do it?

I don't know, how was it solved, mabe some simple filter? Thanks for any advice.

The Sabre is out of reach at the moment but here is a picture under the hood. Appears there is a yellow wire going from the center lug to the board.

Honestly the bright switch is really only good for a loud pop when I flip it. Doesn't really have any noticeable effect.

That bright switch was so Leo could actually hear some treble.

For normal humans.......not so useful.

but if you think it is really unusable, I won't solve it and maybe use the switch in other way. any ideas? I just don't want to have a non working switch there, you understand..

1979 Sabres (with toggle switches like yours) use a completely different pre-amp to the Sabres introduced in c.1983 which use a lever switch system to replace the toggles. The newer Sabres also did away with the bright switch and, at the same time, the original pre-amp was replaced with the same pre-amp as used in the Sting Ray.

The Ernie Ball replacement you have is for both the Sting Rays and the said newer Sabres. The replacement is quite ok in your earlier model Sabre but, as a consequence, you wont have the bright switch circuitry on this pre-amp board. I'm pretty sure EB doesn't make a replacement pre-amp for the earlier Sabre.

I think the only way to use the bright switch would be to find an earlier pre-amp.

Right, the bright switch on my Sabre is barely noticeable. Believe me when I say, you won't miss it at all.

Ok, thanks a lot. I own my Sabre about one year, but I started to thinking about it right know- I'm playing with height of pickups, truss rod and microtilt, everything works great and now, Sabre plays even better. That's why I've posted that question- I was just curious. thanks.

As stated above, the bright switch is so subtle as to be unuseable. The so-called "phase" switch OTOH is so obnoxious as to be unuseable!

Maybe you could use the switch to turn off the preamp, as some systems do - so you could have a passive mode as well? I've owned several pre EB Sabres and I never used the bright switch either.

yes, thats exactly what I have in my mind now. Some DPDT switch could be good thing to make this, but I'm really not sure how to bypass it..
