Party at my house on the 4th of July, Y'all come!

Squirrels are a mountain delicacy, almost no fat and very tangy. My great grandfather was famous for taking two shotgun shells and coming home every morning with two or more squirrels for breakfast. There was no electritcy so no refrigeration, it was the way all the people in the mountains lived. It was normal life for them back then. This was the early 1900's by the way.

When my Mom died and we had to clean out the house there was a freezer full of squirrel meat, Dad was an excellent hunter. We always had wild turkey for Thanksgiving, squirrels for breakfast (during squirrel season) and fresh vegetables from the garden and canned everything at the end of the harvest time. I was a lot healthier back then and if the world goes to hell, well Hank Williams Jr said it best, "A country boy will survive".

Of course I don't live that way now, but I know how to.

    Chuck,
Sounds like a fun bash...squirrel gravy and all. I'll be in DAL getting my bi-annual habenero enema. (checkride)...They gotta make sure I can fly this thing, and whistle dixie, w/ 1 hand tied behind my back, 1 engine on fire, and a mouth full of peanut butter. More fun than a barrel of possums. Maybe next year! -Capt. Don

BP we'd love to have you and I see you are still looking fit, so we'll fix you whatever you want to eat, and I mean whatever! And since you are not drinking you can stand in full view of the church on the hill.

Funny thing about the church, we try not to drink in sight of it, but all the old church ladies love hanging out at the back of the house where the bar is. I understand it brings back memories of their youth.

Capt. Don, you sir have a hard job! I hope it goes well and we have this every year so maybe next time. (Can you land that thing at the Elk Creek dragway, it's a 1/5 mile long?)

I'd love to come out to party, Chuck, but I lack faith in my vehicle at the moment or I would make the drive out there. Hope you have fun!

    Thanks Chuck,
I'm just a switch-flipping, button pusher. I'm certain I could land the 73 on the dragstrip...getting it stopped on the pavement is another story! -Capt. Don

How about we plan on it for next year? I'd love to see that part of VA again. When we lived in Nashville, we spent a lot of time over that way in the TN smokys near Cherokee. Loved driving the Blue Ridge Pkwy and if I remember right, Skyline Pkwy or something like that?
