    SR5 with transparant pickguard?

    Hi all,

I'm going to trade my fretless sterling for a SR5 HS with status neck. Now I'm thinking of making a transparant pickguard for the SR5 because it has a very pretty cherryburst colour. I've seen this on quite a few SR4's, but never on a 5er.

So my question is; what does a SR5 HS look like beneath it's PG? Will it be good looking or will there be al kinds of electric wiring or something like that?

And by the way, will it has a second single coil and work like this one on youtube: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqHBhvI1Kb0"]YouTube - MM Stingray H/S/S[/ame]

    Thanks in advance!

There is a portion under the controls that would expose the cavity with wires. If you put a black strip or something under that part, it would look okay, but keep in mind there should be conductive foil of some sort for the shielding of the cavity. If the opposite side of the shielding is black and it is carefully placed, it might look decent.

Thanks mate, that was exactly the picture I was hoping for! I think SR5's look great without a pickguard, but that cavity really is a shame..

I have seen a few Stingray 5's over the years with portions of pickguards that covered just the control cavity.

I personally love the SR5 pickguard.

I made a cover out of smoked plexiglass once to cover the control cavity on a g&l bass. It turned out good and showed off the sunburst finish on the bass. I put the screws back in the holes so there would be no chipping. It was fairly easy to make and inexpensive.

Well it's not that I really don't like the PG, it's just that I like a beautifull burst finish a bit more.

I've considered a plexiglass cover for the cavity but that would mean I have to make some new holes, which I really prefer not to do.

That's exactly what mine would look like without the guard. A handsome piece of machinery.

And I just noticed it looks quite a bit like a G&L without the pickguard. I'll never get tired of playing a MM, but if one night I feel like playing a G&L now I know I just have to take the pickguard off : )
