We had a gig last night and I took my 4HH Rosewood, my Blue Dawn 4H and my Dargie 5 HSP. Played the 4HH most of the night and switched to the 4H for a couple songs. Just didn't feel comfortable on it and I liked the tone better on the 4HH.

I know a lot of you say the 4H is the bomb. Why can't I connect the same way with it?

BTW - the 4HH rosewood neck smoked last night. LOVE IT!

I'll admit I was the same way with my Bongo 5 H. It was cool but I just prefer the dual pickup models. So I sold it and I think it's in Sweden now.

I love both!

I love my Stingray 5HH and I love my Bongo 4H. They are different instruments and I will use them in different ways. Some songs one works and the other doesn't (at least not quite so well) and vice versa on other songs.

Embrace the difference!

I haven't got to try HS in anger yet, but with a little help from my friends the opportunity may be getting close nudge nudge hint hint

I am fully at home with my HHP where the P is the extra icing on the cake. Anyone buying a Bongo from new should spend the extra cash on a Piezo. It's worth its weight in gold.

The H is a funny beast. In some rooms it kills and others it seems like something is lacking. What I have found is that it sounds thin on stage but really cuts in the front of house. I always wanted to dime the bass on mine so it sounded deep on stage... walked out front and realized that it was overkill as the sound "bloomed." Took me awhile to get use to (it is always weird knowing how you sound on stage can be VERY different than the f-o-h tone). There is more to it but simply put in my 3 piece it (the H) shreads through the guitar and sounds much more powerful than my HH - In my 5 piece the HH seems to be more at home - go figure. Nothing wrong with either.

I too am an HH player. I can't speak from the Bongo per se, but I have had a few SR5 and tried to love the single H, but found the HH to be more for my style of playing. I'm sure the H has alot of love for other players, but for me the HH is the bomb!

Hey EM,

I would treat the H as an instrument on its own and not try to compare it to the HH. Each configuration has its own niche and you have to pull out the right one for the right song. You may need a little more time with it. You may find that a song comes along that you just can't get the right vibe from the HH to suit it and the H will just be the right instrument to express what you want.

That is what I find with my instruments. Each one has its place in the musical spectrum.

Anyway, that is my $0.02.

On the Rays yes... but on the Bongo with the different position the single and doubles are just different beasts... which makes the single H...

Sorry, the single H is my least favorite Bongo. Those who are thinking about getting a single H Bongo, make sure you give one a try first. You may love it, or you may desire something more.

I typically play my Bongo 5 HHp with everything flat. Occasionally I'll bump the low mids a bit. Obviously, some of you guys prefer the single H, that's great, but it doesn't work as well for me. Point being, Eggman is not crazy.
